How to Avoid Overreacting to Frequent Three-Bettors
How to Avoid Overreacting to Frequent Three-Bettors November 17, 2018 PokerNews Staff It's common for poker players to be disinclined to fold hands once they have put money in the middle. This is especially true of lesser skilled players who find it difficult to let go of their hands — or hit the fold button if playing online poker — once they've committed chips. For some that stubbornness sometimes gets compounded in hands players have raised preflop only to be reraised by an opponent.

Accordingly, they may choose to drop down to a lower stakes game, where the competition is at least a little easier, and where they can pump back up their bankroll. Unfortunately, things don't always work out that way. Sometimes, in spite of dropping down, the losing continues. Of course, this can sometimes be the result of simple variance.

Today I want to continue the discussion by looking at five other considerations you should make when visiting a brand new poker room — that is, one that has just opened and is new to everyone. New rooms attract players who have never played in a public poker room.

Danny Wong Tops Three-Way Chop in Bike Mega Millions XIX
The Mega Millions series at The Bicycle in L.A. always brings out one of the biggest prize pools on the West Coast, and Mega Millions XIX was no different as over 8,600 entries produced a prize pool of nearly $1.7 million, with much of that coming from $130 buy-ins and $100 rebuys. When that massive field was whittled down to just three players, Danny Wong, DJ Alexander and Tony Chu elected to chop up the remaining prize money.
The PokerNews Quiz: Never Draw to an Inside Straight
A favorite poker aphorism dating back to the days of five-card draw is the advice "never draw to an inside straight." The phrase is so well known it has become an idiom, used even in non-poker contexts as a way of advising someone to avoid taking unnecessary or unwise risks. You don't even have to know exactly why you shouldn't draw to an inside straight in order to understand the caution being advised.

Lam Bests Schindler and Men "The Master," Wins WPT Gardens
Despite having nearly $1.5 million in live tournament cashes, Simon Lam had yet to take down a major title. That all changed Thursday night at Gardens Casino in Los Angeles as Lam took down WPT Gardens $5,000 Main Event for a $565,055 first-place prize. Little isn’t watching as a fan though.
The Muck: Could/Should You Fold Kings Preflop on the Main Event Final Table Bubble?
“It feels like you can’t get away from kings, but you can,” Maria Ho said. It was the stone bubble of the WSOP Main Event final table, and ESPN’s commentators were in disbelief. But hole cards don't lie. With the blinds at 300K/600K/100K, Nicolas Manion raised under the gun to 1,500,000 with pocket aces. Antoine Labat, who had 51,250,000 and pocket kings, called in middle position. Yueqi Zhu, who also had two kings, moved all-in for 24,700,000 from the hijack.

The company is the largest oyster producer in all of eastern Canada and harvests fresh oysters daily and ships them to more than 70 countries. “The Atlantic oysters are really salty and really good,” he says.

Tag Team, Back Again: Somerset Poker Living the Dream
“Individual commitment to a group effort – that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work.” Legendary Green Bay Packers coach Vince Lombardi may not have had poker in mind when giving that statement, but his words about team dynamics and commitment certainly ring true to action in the WSOP today as the $1,000 Tag Team event kicks off in the Rio. Teams of two to four players will be battling it out for a bracelet and hoping for a nice financial score.
The Muck: Would You Eat Three Big Macs for 1.5x Starting Stack?
McDonald’s seems to hold a special place in the poker world, at least for being the punching bag for prop bets. Back in 2012, the health-conscious Patrik Antonius ate three Big Macs in exchange for Australian Open final tickets to Nadal vs. Djokovic. More recently in May 2017, Mike Noori attempted to eat $1,000 worth of McDonald’s food in 36 hours.
The Muck: What Is the Modern-Day Poker Dream?
What is the poker dream? For a lot of players, it’s winning a World Series of Poker bracelet. For others, it’s simply becoming a poker professional and playing poker every day. Whether it’s to one day play the WSOP Main Event or to just play any WSOP tournament, poker dreams vary from person to person. Earlier this week, Doug Polk took to Twitter to talk about the poker dream and the importance of protecting it. For Polk, and most likely a lot of players, the poker dream is financial freedom.

What’s incredible about the Common Cents festival is the guarantees on the events range from $2,500 up to $100,000 despite the tiny buy-ins. The opening event of the Common Cents festival is quite ridiculous.
