Many people in Lebanon woke up today after their first truly restful night’s sleep in weeks. There were celebratory flares and gunfire as the ceasefire came into force at midnight. But in the cold light of day, this war-weary nation faced the reality; this is a fragile truce in a country battered by war. Some of the million and more people displaced by the Israeli invasion have begun the trek back to their homes. What they’re finding are smashed-up streets and buildings reduced to rubble.
