Matt Kuchar and son Cameron cruise to record victory at the PNC Championship while remembering the family patriarch
The PNC Championship concluded what frequently is called the silly season, but silliness gave way to seriously impressive, the performance delivered by the winners, Matt Kuchar and his son Cameron on Sunday. The Kuchars took a two-stroke lead into the second and final round at Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando, played the first seven holes in eight under in the two-man scramble format and cruised to a record seven-stroke victory. Hit it close, make putts, Cameron said. I was lucky today.

Ryan Gerard's 20,000-mile round trip succeeds, finishes second in DP World Tour event to secure a Masters invitation
Ryan Gerard completed his mission improbable, traveling 10,000 miles, from the U.S. to Mauritius, an island nation in the Indian Ocean in an effort to earn a Masters invitation. Gerard, 26, needed to a tie for fourth or better in the DP World Tours AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open to move from 57th in the Official World Golf Ranking into the top 50 to secure the coveted invitation; all players in the OWGR top 50 at the end of 2025 get spots into Augusta National in April.
Ryan Gerard's 20,000-mile round trip succeeds, finishes second in DP World Tour event to secure a Masters invitation Original
Save for later Ryan Gerard completed his mission improbable, traveling 10,000 miles, from the U.S. to Mauritius, an island nation in the Indian Ocean in an effort to earn a Masters invitation. Gerard, 26, needed to a tie for fourth or better in the DP World Tour’s AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open to move from 57th in the World Golf Ranking into the top 50 to secure the coveted invitation. He did so by virtue of finishing second, losing in a playoff to Jayden Schaper of South Africa.
Canadian A.J. Ewart confidently but improbably wins the PGA Tour Q School and a 2026 tour membership Original
Canadian A.J. Ewart set out to win the PGA Tour Q School, so he said, though there was negligible evidence to support the optimism behind that lofty goal. Yet, there he was on Sunday afternoon, closing out the best week of his career, maybe his life, with an otherwise unlikely victory and a PGA Tour membership for 2026.
Andrew Novak, Lauren Coughlin ride late birdie blitz to victory in the Grant Thornton Invitational Original
Professional golf this time of the year is generally called the silly season, to which Andrew Novak’s contribution to the silliness was his identifying his victory with Lauren Coughlin in the Grant Thornton Invitational on Sunday as completing “the modern-day grand slam.” But their two-stroke victory at Tiburon Golf Club in Naples, Fla., was no laughing matter given that the duo will split $1 million for the victory. The $500,000 Coughlin earned was the largest payday of her career.
Stewart Cink ends Steven Alker's reign, wins the Charles Schwab Cup Original
Steven Alker’s remarkable renaissance from journeyman to PGA Tour Champions star went splash late Sunday, allowing major champion Stewart Cink to emerge as the tour’s reigning star, winning both the Charles Schwab Cup Championship and the season-long Charles Schwab Cup. Cink, 52, began the final round at Phoenix Country Club trailing Alker by one, then shot a four-under 67 that secured a two-stroke victory when Alker’s second shot at the par-5 18th hole went right and into a water hazard.
Judy Bell, first woman to serve as USGA president, dies at 89 Original
When Judy Bell was a child growing up in Wichita, Kansas, she once threw a club in disgust in the presence of judge and jury, her mother, who grounded her for a week. Lesson learned. In the many decades that followed, it is unlikely anyone treated the game with greater respect. Bell, the first woman to serve as USGA president, died on Nov. 3 at age 89, leaving behind a legacy of service to others in a sport that meant so much to her as one of golf’s most decorated women.
Brandon Holtz, former college basketball player and pro golfer, wins U.S. Mid-Amateur
Brandon Holtz, suffice it to say, is accomplished at putting a ball in a hole, considering that he played college basketball and, for a time, professional golf. But his ability at doing so paid a huge dividend on Thursday when he won the U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship. Holtz, 38, who played college basketball at Illinois State, defeated Jeg Coughlin III, who also briefly tried professional golf, 3 and 2, at Troon Country Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Dawn Woodard delivers her first victory in 35 USGA championship starts, defeating Sue Wooster on the 20th hole in U.S. Senior Women's Amateur final
It could have been argued that the game owed one to both finalists in the U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur, notwithstanding golf’s inclination to disregard its debts. Dawn Woodard’s was paid in full on Thursday by virtue of her first victory in her 35th start in USGA events.
Former Masters participant and U.S. Walker Cup captain just accomplished this impressive USGA first
Mike McCoy’s amateur career already was sufficiently impressive to stand on its own, but greatness does not come with an expiration date, as he demonstrated on Thursday, winning the U.S Senior Amateur Championship and making a bit of history in doing so.
Megha Ganne adds a U.S. Women's Amateur title to her already stellar amateur resume
The transition from wunderkind to bona fide amateur and college star has been seamless for Megha Ganne, who continues to burnish her reputation on the biggest stages in women’s golf, this time with a victory in the 125th U.S. Women’s Amateur at Bandon Dunes on Sunday. Ganne, 21 and soon to be a senior at Stanford, defeated former Michigan State golfer Brooke Biermann, 4 and 3, in the 36-hole final in Bandon, Ore. “I can’t believe I’m standing here now,” Ganne said.
Padriag Harrington joins elite company, becoming the fifth player to win both an Open Championship and a Senior Open Championship
Padraig Harrington’s career needs no burnishing, given that it already is a World Golf Hall of Fame one, yet he continues to augment it in a major way, this time by winning the ISPS HANDA Senior Open, otherwise known as the Senior Open Championship, on Sunday. The victory was his second senior major this year, coming a month after he won the U.S. Senior Open at the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Augusta native Hamilton Coleman hangs on to win the U.S. Junior Amateur, 2 and 1, over Nguyen Anh Minh of Vietnam
Augusta, Ga., and Vietnam seemingly occupy opposite corners of the golf spectrum, but each was represented in the U.S. Junior Amateur final on Saturday, a distinctive pairing that nonetheless delivered a dramatic finish. Maybe it was not that surprising that Augusta native Hamilton Coleman won, but neither would it have been an upset had Nguyen Anh Minh prevailed.
Ryan Gerard takes the next step toward potential stardom with his victory in the Barracuda Championship
Forecasting success is a risky venture given the vagaries of a notoriously fickle game, but in the case of Ryan Gerard the signs continue to suggest a bright and lucrative future. Gerard, 25, won the PGA Tour’s off-Broadway stop on Sunday, victorious in the Barracuda Championship on the Old Greenwood Course at Tahoe Mountain Club in Truckee, Calif., several hours after the completion of the British Open.

Canada's Aphrodite Deng reinforced her standing as one of the two best juniors in the world on Saturday, winning the 76th U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship, defeating Xingtong Chen of Singapore, 2 and 1, in the 36-hole final on the Riverside Course at the Atlanta Athletic Club in Johns Creek, Ga. Deng opened a 4-up lead in the first 18 holes, still held a 4-up lead with five holes to play on the second 18, and finally closed out her stubborn opponent on the 35th hole of the match.
England’s Lottie Woad already has established herself as the world’s best woman amateur, but now she has moved to the brink of solidifying her standing as a future professional star. Woad, 21 and a senior to be at Florida State, opened a seven-stroke lead
England’s Lottie Woad already has established herself as the world’s best woman amateur, but now she has moved to the brink of solidifying her standing as a future professional star. Woad, 21 and a senior to be at Florida State, opened a seven-stroke lead through three rounds of the KPGM Women’s Irish Open in a bid to do what Lydia Ko, then 16, accomplished in the 2013 New Zealand Open (co-sanctioned by the LET), winning on the tour as an amateur.
Auburn football coach Hugh Freeze plays a lot of golf, leading to speculation that it is hurting recruiting efforts
The late Bing Crosby once asked his friend John Swanson if he was playing much golf. “Only days,” Swanson famously replied. This came to mind when questions arose as to whether Auburn football coach Hugh Freeze was playing golf at that kind of frequency and that it was affecting the Tigers’ recruiting efforts.
Padraig Harrington joyful to relive 'past glories,' gratefully captures his second U.S. Senior Open
COLORADO SPRINGS — It was for Padraig Harrington a week that began with double-doubles (burgers, not bogeys), a lost ball and losing a specious debate, and ended with a declaration of profound gratitude and another U.S. Senior Open championship. The Irishman, 53, a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame, prevailed in a veritable 18-hole match race with Stewart Cink on the East Course at the Broadmoor on Sunday.
Bernhard Langer, 67, is teetering between aging and ageless as he pursues a third U.S. Senior Open victory
COLORADO SPRINGS – A reign has no fixed expiration date, as Bernhard Langer has demonstrated, but there comes a point when inevitability begins to assert itself. Has Langer reached this stage? There is no easy answer with Langer, ostensibly ageless, but indisputably aging. The U.S. Senior Open begins on the East Course at the Broadmoor here on Thursday, and Langer, 67, will be pursuing his third victory in this championship.
Meet the least likely player in the U.S. Senior Open field with a star-studded rooting base
COLORADO SPRINGS – Golf at the elite level is star driven, of course, but occasionally, even refreshingly, the stars align to a degree that allows an interloper to take the stage alongside the headliners. Meet Tom Greller. An amateur golfer from the town of Newberg, about 40 miles southwest of Portland, in Oregon wine country, Greller, 53, who plays to a 0.6 handicap index at Newberg’s municipal course, is a medical device salesman for Microtransponder.
Watch Keegan Bradley's dramatic birdie to win the Travelers, breaking Tommy Fleetwood's heart
PGA Tour Alex Goodlett Keegan Bradley, a local favorite and the captain of the U.S. Ryder Cup team, came to the 18th hole needing a birdie and some help and received both to win the Travelers Championship for the second time in three years on Sunday. Trailing leader Tommy Fleetwood by one on the 18th at the TPC River Highlands, Bradley hit a perfect tee shot that was matched by Fleetwood.
Ryan Fox of New Zealand wins the RBC Canadian Open in a playoff, his second PGA Tour victory in a month
It has been quite the journey for New Zealander Ryan Fox, whose career has played out on its own world tour, defined by victories on several continents in a variety of countries, on tours small and large. His latest addition to his trophy collection came Sunday via a playoff victory over Sam Burns in the RBC Canadian Open at the TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley in Caledon, Ontario. It was his second PGA Tour victory a month apart, following a win in the ONEflight Myrtle Beach Classic in May.
Ben Griffin's improbable career resurrection continues with a second victory in his last 5 starts
It is insufficient, if not inaccurate, to simply note that this loan arranger got back in the saddle, as it were, trying another run at professional golf, and cashing a $1.71 million check in Cowtown on Sunday. It is more complicated, indeed more unlikely, than that. No scriptwriter conceivably would have created this scenario.
Teenagers Will Hartman and Tyler Mawhinney rally to defeat their veteran opponents in the U.S. Amateur Four-Ball final
The advantage talented teens have over older opponents is a paucity of mental scar tissue, offset perhaps by an experience disadvantage. So it was that the final of the U.S. Amateur Four-Ball on Wednesday came down to youth, Will Hartman and Tyler Mawhinney, combined age 35, versus experience, Evan Beck and Dan Walters, combined age 74.
Arkansas sophomore Maria Jose Marin joins Stacy Lewis and Maria Fassi as Razorbacks winning an NCAA individual championship

Ángel Cabrera's return to golf continues with win at the Regions Tradition, his second victory in last four starts
Extenuating circumstances, to put it delicately, put his PGA Tour Champions career on hold for 2 ½ years, but now at 55, Angel Cabrera is rapidly making up for lost time. The Argentinian won the Regions Tradition on Monday, his second PGA Tour Champions victory in his last four starts. “I always thought I would (win), but didn’t think it would be so fast,” Cabrera said through an interpreter.
Teenagers Natalie Yen and Asia Young win a teen-dominated U.S. Women's Amateur Four-Ball final, 5 and 3
The final of the U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball had less to do with women than with girls, an all-teenage pairing that might have warranted having a chaperone rather than a scorer. But the victory delivered by Oregon natives Natalie Yen, 18, and Asia Young, 16, over two 16-year-olds from Kentucky, Athena Singh and Keira Yung, on Wednesday testified to the continuing growth and strength of the future of women’s golf.
Watch Ryan Fox chip in to win the Myrtle Beach Classic on the first hole of a three-man playoff
The off-Broadway PGA Tour event on Sunday came down to a United Nations playoff of sorts, featuring an American folk-hero in the making, a Canadian already with a trophy, and a 38-year-old New Zealander intent on conquering the new world.
Jordan Spieth equals low round of his career 11 days before his latest quest to complete a career Grand Slam
Jordan Spieth equaled the best score of his PGA Tour career, a 62 in the final round of the CJ Cup Byron Nelson on Sunday, 11 days before he resumes his quest to complete a career Grand Slam at the PGA Championship. Spieth, 31, will be making his ninth attempt at completing the Grand Slam, at the Quail Hollow Club, a month after Rory McIlroy completed his own career Grand Slam by winning the Masters.
Blades Brown, only 17, posts final-round 63, ties for second in Korn Ferry Tour event in Texas
Korn Ferry Tour Sam Hodde When Blades Brown, only 17, announced in December that he was turning professional, the name that came to mind was Ty Tryon, who at 16 turned pro and, well, was a bust. It’s too early to gauge Brown’s decision to similarly forgo college golf, but on Sunday he made a significant stride toward quelling any criticism of his decision.

He won two of the following three U.S. Mid-Amateurs as well, and also had a British Amateur victory on his gilded resume, winning in 1979.
Want to see Cypress Point Club up close? Now's your chance with the Walker Cup ticket lottery
Most golfers will never have the opportunity to play Cypress Point, one of the best and most exclusive courses in the world. But they will have a chance to see the course up close at the 50th Walker Cup Sept. 5-7. Former Stanford star Karl Vilips delivers a Sunday Tiger-like performance to win the Puerto Rico Open in fourth tour start
The Stanford golf lineage is a long and imposing one, but contemporaneously begins with Tiger Woods and his largely inescapable shadow. So it was that another former Stanford golfer, Karl Vilips, wearing Woods’ new signature clothing line, Sun Day Red, stepped out from that shadow and delivered a Tiger-like Sunday performance in the final round to win the Puerto Rico Open.
'Oh my gosh': Watch the new PGA Tour winner’s ball bounce off a tree and back in bounds to set up the winning birdie
PGA Tour Hector Vivas A game of skill occasionally has to defer to a game of luck, and Brian Campbell received one of the luckiest bounces that enabled him to turn a potential playoff loss into a victory in the Vidanta Mexico Open on Sunday. On the second playoff hole, the par-5 18th, at Vidanta Vallarta in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, Campbell hit his tee shot wildly right and destined for out of bounds, when it caromed off a tree and back into play.

Bernhard Langer improbably adds to his legend with an unlikely victory in the Charles Schwab Cup Championship
The legend that is Bernhard Langer continues to grow unimpeded either by age or injury, suggesting as it does that there is truth to the superiority of German engineering.
