Investigating Remote Warfare as the Radical Undoing of Life: The Compounding Civilian Harm Effects of US‐Led Coalition Bombings in Iraq
Introduction: The Strike We were sleeping in the yard of the house, my family and me. It was like an atomic bomb. The sound of the explosion reached Kirkuk. In the morning, we saw the streets full of rubble from doors, windows, glass, and iron. The families who lived in the industrial neighbourhood did not come out from under the rubble. Seven days after the bombing, their smell came out from under the rubble.
Collateral damage: crushing the myths of modern warfare
The US military is facing allegations it covered up civilian casualty cases in the war against Islamic State (ISIS). It’s an issue that has drawn attention to one of the most worrying aspects of US and coalition involvement in the Middle East: the large numbers of civilian casualties, or what has come to be known as “collateral damage.” On November 13, The New York Times revealed that more than 70 people had been killed in an F-15 air strike on the Syrian town of Baghuz in 2019.

An assemblage approach to liquid warfare: AFRICOM and the ‘hunt’ for Joseph Kony
Introduction In the Middle East and across Africa, an expanding conglomerate of armed actors is engaged in surveillance programmes, training operations, targeted killings and manhunts, often outside conventional war zones.
