Fourteen area teams will compete in the CIF-Southern Section girls tennis playoffs. The pairings were announced on Saturday, Nov. 1. All first-round matches are scheduled for Wednesday. In Division 2, Marmonte League champion and fourth-seeded Calabasas (13-1) will host Temecula Valley. Marmonte League runner-up Westlake (18-6), which beat Calabasas in the Division 1 final last season, will host Yorba Linda. Coastal Canyon League champion Oak Park (14-1) will host Troy.

Reading the negative reaction to the closure of La Reina last week, I think that we should take a step back and consider that Thousand Oaks would be difficult to imagine without the Sisters of Notre Dame. The sisters arrived in California from Ohio 100 years ago, and 40 years later, they opened the only high school for girls in the Conejo Valley: La Reina. Had it not been for La Reina, thousands of students would not have received a high-quality education based on the Catholic faith.
