J Batt’s first addition to his Kentucky athletics department leadership team will bring familiarity with his boss to Lexington. Jon Palumbo, who has worked as interim athletics director at Michigan State since Batt left the job for UK, has been hired as UK’s new deputy athletics director and deputy CEO of Champions Blue LLC. Batt previously hired Palumbo at both Georgia Tech and Michigan State.

The first high school commitment of the Will Stein era at Kentucky did not actually know much about UK’s new football coach. Wide receiver Kenny Darby committed to play for the Wildcats just four days after Kentucky tabbed Stein to replace Mark Stoops, but it was not Stein who Darby was primarily choosing to play for. “I was committed to LSU and (Joe Sloan) was the offensive coordinator at LSU,” Darby said.
