As one of the fastest-growing cities in the nation, Temple is experiencing a rapid transformation. According to U.S. Census data, the city population increased from just over 82,000 in 2020 to almost 103,000 this past year. With this growth comes an influx of new residents, businesses and infrastructure developments. While rapid growth brings opportunities and amenities for residents, it also presents significant strain for needed city services such as water, trash collection and public safety.

Temple City Council accepts Long resignation, begins search for replacement

Temple City Council members met in a special session Tuesday morning to cover a short agenda, including accepting the resignation of District 3 councilwoman Susan Long. Long, who served on council since 2017, resigned this week, citing the need to care for her husband, who has faced significant health problems recently. Prior to her service on they Council, Long served for nine years on the Temple Independent School District board.
