Knives marketed using violent words such as "kombat" and "fighter" continue to be available for sale nearly two years after the Southport attack, which claimed the lives of three children in a knife rampage. During the opening of the second phase of the Southport Inquiry on Wednesday (July 8), it emerged that knives bearing violent language remain on sale, despite this clearly contravening existing legislation.

The family of a Blackpool tiler who died after developing an asbestos-related cancer are appealing for information to help establish how he was exposed to the deadly material while working on the construction of a hospital. Leonard "Len" Blacow, who lived in Blackpool, died on March 23, 2025, aged 76, after being diagnosed with mesothelioma - an aggressive form of cancer linked to asbestos exposure.
