1 INTRODUCTION Structural biology has until recently relied on X-ray crystallography to provide much of the three-dimensional information on proteins and other macromolecules that inform biological function. Recently, single-particle cryogenic electron microscopy and electron diffraction techniques have advanced to the point where results from them are also giving new and exciting contributions to our knowledge.
