Homes of residents caught in dispute catch fire on same day
Two residents who had been involved in a long-running dispute with a holiday park company saw their homes destroyed by fire on the same day. Their mobile homes, situated on opposite sides of Wyre Country Park in Lancashire, went up in flames within 90 minutes of each other in August. Both residents had appeared in a BBC Panorama programme last year that alleged some mobile home owners had been cheated out of their life savings.
Lucy Letby's new expert supporters claim no babies were deliberately harmed. Who should we believe?
[BBC] Listen to Jonathan read this article. When it comes to the Lucy Letby case, there are two parallel universes. In one, the question of her guilt is settled. She is a monster who murdered seven babies and attempted to murder seven more while she was a nurse at the Countess of Chester Hospital between 2015 and 2016. In the other universe, Letby is the victim of a flawed criminal justice system in which unreliable medical evidence was used to condemn and imprison an innocent woman.

£1.68bn accounts trick inflated water firm's books
One of England's top-rated water companies is using an accounting trick to artificially inflate its balance sheet by more than a billion pounds, BBC Panorama has discovered. Severn Trent Water claims that an investment is worth £1.68bn in its accounts, when in reality it has no value to the overall business. The made-up money makes the company appear more financially robust and helps to support its bumper payouts to shareholders.
More babies harmed in Letby’s care, files suggest
New evidence seen by the BBC suggests more babies in Lucy Letby’s care were harmed – and in one case poisoned with insulin. The former nurse was found guilty of murdering seven babies and attempting to murder seven others - including trying to kill two with insulin at the Countess of Chester Hospital neonatal unit between June 2015 and June 2016. BBC One's Panorama has seen documents which suggest a third baby may have also been poisoned within hours of Letby taking over the boy’s care.

Soft tones mask a sinister message of supremacy
It might sound like an impossible goal given all the gratuitously toxic rhetoric. But, like his hero Nietzsche, Spencer has many masks. He and his fellow activists seek not only to shock and to radicalise, but to seduce, ordinary white Americans. They dress like mascots for respectable Americana — white polo shirts and beige chinos — and profess to disavow violence in favour of “peaceful assembly”.
Soft tones mask a sinister message of supremacy
For the past two years, I’ve been tracking the resurgence of white nationalism in America. I’ve watched a new generation of white nationalists emerge — many under the banner of the “alt-Right” — with new tactics and new ambitions to bring white nationalism out of the shadows and into the mainstream. And they’re succeeding. Recent events in Charlottesville were just an eye-catching glimpse of this.
