Dr. Heidi Overton has spent years telling Americans where she stands on abortion. If she is entrusted with leadership at the Food and Drug Administration, the pro-life movement should expect her to act accordingly. Overton has built an extensive, self-authored record defending life. She has argued that radical abortion policies do not “follow the science.” She has written that advances in medicine have strengthened the pro-life argument.

California Democrat Xavier Becerra has finally agreed to debate Republican Steve Hilton as the two face off in the state’s gubernatorial election this November. Normally that wouldn’t be front-page news, but it looks a lot like Becerra waited to lock in a debate until his polling numbers started to slip.

On Monday, at least eight people were hurt in shootings or stabbings near New York City's Indian Day Parade in Brooklyn. A 37-year-old woman was shot in the leg, along with two other victims. Five men were either stabbed or slashed. It's not the first time the event, meant to celebrate Caribbean culture, has been marred by violence. It turns out that one of the alleged shooting suspects had been cut loose by an activist judge and was out on bail just last month.

The irony of Gavin Newsom complaining about gas prices is not lost on me. California has the highest gas taxes in the nation, with $0.736 of every gallon of gas going to Sacramento. If that wasn't bad enough, Democrats in the state are poised to add a mileage tax on top of it, and that tax could be as high as $0.09 per mile.

As we approach the 25th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks against the United States, Townhall plans to honor the lives lost and the lives forever changed with our "Heroes of 9/11" series. Every day from now until September 11, we will highlight an American hero. This year, most especially, we wish not simply to commemorate an event, but the character of exceptional men and women who demonstrated the best of humanity in one of its darkest moments.

Victor Davis Hanson, a military classicist, historian, and fellow at the Hoover Institution, offered some insight into why Tucker Carlson, Marjorie Taylor Greene, and others, who initially appeared to be allies of the MAGA movement, so quickly became saboteurs. According to Hanson, it may simply be that when these commentators and politicians spoke with President Trump, they believed themselves capable of guiding the MAGA movement more broadly.

Karmelo Anthony’s appeal for a new trial is over, but his defense team remains confident they can do something about his murder conviction. Anthony killed Austin Metcalf, 17, at a high school track meet in Frisco, Texas, in April 2025. He was found guilty of murder in June and sentenced to 35 years. Some claimed the jury was all-white, but that was false.

Scott had this story over the weekend: Ohio Democratic gubernatorial candidate Amy Acton was reportedly attacked at a campaign event. A suspect was apprehended, with this individual allegedly armed: Someone has been arrested after allegedly attacking a Democrat candidate for Ohio governor while she was at the Canfield Fair on Sunday. Mahoning County Democrat Party chairman Chris Anderson posted on Facebook that an armed individual was arrested after knocking volunteers to the ground.

Stanley Praimnath had already evacuated the South Tower on the morning of September 11, 2001. After American Airlines Flight 11 hit the North Tower at 8:46 AM, Praimnath and about 20 of his coworkers left their office on the 81st Floor and made it all the way to the ground before they were told the South Tower was safe. Hearing that news, Praimnath and his colleagues returned to their offices. A short while later, Praimnath got a call from a colleague at the Fuji Bank Chicago office.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio blasted a reporter’s question earlier this week after being asked whether the Trump administration is concerned about Cuba’s shortages of oil and electricity, crises the United Nations has repeatedly blamed on the U.S. blockade rather than on Cuba’s corrupt, tyrannical, communist government. Rubio made sure the UN knew exactly who the Trump administration holds responsible for that suffering. 🚨 WOW! Sec.
