NO tablet: autonomous generation of therapeutic nitric oxide in air through redox-promoted CO2 adsorption
?Mathematical formulae have been encoded as MathML and are displayed in this HTML version using MathJax in order to improve their display. Uncheck the box to turn MathJax off. This feature requires Javascript. Click on a formula to zoom. ABSTRACT Inhaled nitric oxide (iNO) is a powerful therapy for the treatment of various cardiopulmonary and respiratory diseases. However, access to iNO therapy is often limited by the necessity of cumbersome gas tanks and/or elaborate gas blending apparatus.
Getting it Wrong: Biological Mistake-Making as a Cross-System, Cross-Scale Phenomenon
ABSTRACT The making of mistakes by organisms and living systems generally is an underexplored way of conceptualising biology and organising experimental research. We set out an informal account of biological mistakes and why they should be taken seriously in biological investigation. We then give an indirect defence of their importance by applying the concept of mistake-making to three kinds of activity: timing, calculation, and communication.
Heavy tail robust estimation and inference for average treatment effects
Abstract. We study the probability tail properties of Inverse probability weighting (IPW) estimators of the average treatment effect (ATE) when there is limited overlap between the covariate distributions of the treatment and control groups. Under unconfoundedness of treatment assignment conditional on covariates, such limited overlap is manifested in the propensity score for certain units being very close (but not equal) to 0 or 1.

Ultra-durable, Multi-template Molecularly Imprinted Polymers for Ultrasensitive Monitoring and Multicomponent Quantification of Trace Sulfa Antibiotics
Ultra-durable, Multi-template Molecularly Imprinted Polymers for Ultrasensitive Monitoring and Multicomponent Quantification of Trace Sulfa Antibiotics Traditional analysis methods are susceptible to interference caused by the complexity of sample matrices, and detector surface fouling arising from nonspecific adsorption of microorganisms (in biological samples) which leads in particular to a gradual loss of sensitivity.
Mesoporous Carbon Cubes Derived from Fullerene Crystals as a High Rate Performance Electrode Material for Supercapacitors
Mesoporous Carbon Cubes Derived from Fullerene Crystals as a High Rate Performance Electrode Material for Supercapacitors We report the thermal conversion of three-dimensional (3D) mesoporous crystalline fullerene C70 cubes (MCFC) into mesoporous carbon with retention of the original cubic morphology. This newly synthesized cube morphology mesoporous carbon shows excellent electrochemical capacitive properties.
Substrate-Mediated C-C and C-H Coupling after Dehalogenation
Intermolecular C–C coupling after cleavage of C–X (mostly, X = Br or I) bonds has been extensively studied for facilitating the synthesis of polymeric nanostructures. However, the accidental appearance of C–H coupling at the terminal carbon atoms would limit the successive extension of covalent polymers.
Mesoporous Graphitic Carbon Microtubes Derived from Fullerene C70 Tubes as a High Performance Electrode Material for Advanced Supercapacitors
Direct conversion of mesoporous crystalline fullerene C microtubes into mesoporous graphitic carbon microtubes by heat treatment at high temperature (2000 °C) with retention of the initial one-dimensional tubular morphology is reported. The walls of the resulting graphitic carbon microtubes are composed of ordered conjugated sp carbon with a robust mesoporous framework structure.
Anion Binding, Electrochemistry and Solvatochromism of β-Brominated Oxoporphyrinogens
Effects of macrocycle bromination on the structural, electrochemical and anion binding properties of 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(3,5-di-t-butyl-4-oxo-cyclohexa-2,5-dienylidene)porphyrinogen, OxP, are reported. Bromination of 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(3,5-di-t-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)-porphinatocopper(II), [T(DtBHP)P]Cu(II) yielded β-Br OxP, which was N-alkylated to β-Br OxPBz2 and β-Br OxPBz (where Bz = 4-bromobenzyl).
