Dear Editor. We welcome the timely discussion on the role of the newly established palliative care commission and the Health and Social Care Committee’s expert panel in driving meaningful change in palliative and end-of-life care. Higginson and Ramjeeawon highlight that while the UK has been a pioneer in palliative care, provision remains inconsistent, and many people still die without receiving adequate support [1].

We present five themes that demonstrate how services supported or reached patient or families with COVID-19 from minority ethnic groups. Theme 1: disproportionate impact of restricted visiting While everyone was required to endure not being able to see their loved ones at the end of life, respondents noted that during the pandemic, families of patients from ethnic minority groups were particularly affected by restrictions on visiting.

Discussion This systematic review aimed to identify and examine the use of social media in palliative and end-of-life care research by appraising the ethical and data collection issues associated with its uses and applications. Our review identified an increasing academic interest in using social media as a research tool in palliative and end-of-life care research.
