Expert miners are joining the search, rescue, and retrieval operation in Southern Mindanao, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) said. “Following the 7.8-magnitude earthquake that struck off southern Mindanao, the DENR is helping facilitate search and rescue operations, the delivery of potable water, medical evacuation, and the transport of relief goods and emergency personnel to Glan, Sarangani, under the coordination of the Office of Civil Defense,” the DENR said.

As aftershocks of the magnitude 7.8 offshore earthquake off the shores of Maasim, Sarangani province continue to rock Northern Mindanao, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said it continues to receive reports of casualties from local DRRMC and local government units (LGUs). Latest information released by the NDRRMC as of 10 a.m. Thursday revealed the number of fatalities is now 47, with 688 injured and 31 missing.
