What was your first job as a journalist?

Work experience at the Märkische Allgemeine, a German regional paper.

How is social media changing news?

For the better. Tweeting the best quotes from conferences gives readers something to look forward to once the full write-up is online.

What's your favorite social network?

Twitter, although the more I use LinkedIn, the more useful I find it.

Why did you become a journalist?

Because I like an environment where I'm constantly learning. But also because I really, really wanted to be Clark Kent.

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

The aspirational answer is "Exploring the world". The honest one is "Exploring the contents of the biscuit tin".

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

The Saturday Paper. Its features a wonderfully in-depth.

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

That it includes retail finance.
