Introduction to behavior trees
Abstraction in programming has evolved our use of computers from basic arithmetic operations to representing complex real-world phenomena using models. More specific to robotics, abstraction has moved us from low-level actuator control and basic sensing to reasoning about higher-level concepts behaviors, as I define in my Anatomy of a Robotic System post. In autonomous systems, we have seen an entire host of abstractions beyond “plain” programming for behavior modeling and execution.
