1 Introduction The rising levels of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere are the primary contributor to global warming and among the most pressing modern challenges [1, 2]. In reply to this challenge, there is an urgent need to transition away from our conventional linear economy model. This current model relies on extracting fossil carbon feedstock from the ground, which is emitted as CO2 into the atmosphere.
