@dceiver F&F a work of Gossip Journalism: the meat is just Wolff quickly relaying whatever he heard people say (and what others said was said.) Like any salacious tale, Gossip Journalism tickles peoples fancies with superficial discussions of things that deserve far deeper consideration.
@dceiver But think about what this book means for journalism. There are so many glaring errors, hastily slapped together paragraphs, etc. but many of our colleagues (and educated readers) are hailing it as a triumph. It's scary to me that we're rewarding bad behavior.
@dceiver Why not all three? This is the case for basically anything that can move books (I mentioned the ISIS conflict in the Middle East as another example.) I mean, it's a faster return-on-investment than giving an investigative journalist lots of time to sink his teeth into a subject.
@dceiver And Wolff (like Halperin/Heileman) is going to make bank off of his quick-turnaround book, so we're only going to see more of this. Just look at plethora of horrible books written about ISIS before the conflict even ended to make a quick $$. It's just getting worse.
