What was your first job as a journalist?
I started out as a reporter covering Manatee County for WWSB-TV in Sarasota, Florida.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Yes, but I have since moved on to computers (I hear all the young people are doing it).
How is social media changing news?
It's breaking down the invisible wall between content creators and consumers.
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
Kermit the Frog.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
It means making the complex understandable, bringing the distant within reach, shedding light on darkness, all while keeping it interesting.
What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
Through email or the Muck Rack site.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
MacBook Pro, Final Cut Pro, GoPro Hero3, iPhone, iPad, TweetDeck.
What's your favorite social network?
Twitter for work. Facebook for play. And Google+ for both if more people start using it.
Who do you wish followed you?
I'm still trying to convince my mom of the merits of Twitter.
Why did you become a journalist?
I love writing, storytelling and the cool gadgets we use to record history as it unfolds.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
My high school didn't have a newspaper. However, I was founder and editor of my class newspaper in 4th grade. I hope it was legible.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
At my first job, a story on a baby in need of a liver transplant brought on an outpouring of donations. Her operation was a success!
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Adapt.

I read every pitch I get, but spend the most time on those received during normal business hours when I'm focused on work.
