This year’s edition of Kilby Block Party stood to introduce the festival as a major player to North America’s festival scene. It’s not the size of a Coachella or Bonnaroo, instead carving out its own niche with a hard focus on indie music – you won’t find a Dom Dolla or Olivia Rodrigo here, which is not a slight on the myriad of music festivals recycling headliner after headliner.

This week, the sixth edition of Kilby Block Party takes over the great city of Salt Lake City, Utah for their annual gathering of the greatest indie and alternative acts under the sun. The festival, which started as a celebration of long-standing SLC venue Kilby Court has quickly grown into a premier destination for indie music fans, with the festival levelling up every year in prestige.

When I catch Matt Weedon of the UK trio Tors, he’s in a jovial mood – resting up after a massive arena tour supporting James Blunt in 15k capacity arenas, and gearing up for the release of the band’s new EP Miracle, out worldwide via Glassnote Records.
