Brown University Receives NIH grant for Multimodal Optical Imaging and AI Analytics to Uncover APOE4 Etiology and Therapeutic Targets in Late Onset Alzheimer’s Disease
Brown University Receives a 2026 NIH grant for $636,372 for Multimodal Optical Imaging and AI Analytics to Uncover APOE4 Etiology and Therapeutic Targets in Late Onset Alzheimer’s Disease. The principal investigator is Jonghwan Lee. Below is a summary of the proposed work. Alzheimer’s disease (AD) afflicts more than 55 million people worldwide and already accounts for up to 80% of all dementia cases. As populations age, its societal and economic burden will soar.

Diverse quantum interference regimes in intramolecular singlet fission chromophores with thiophene-based linkers
Diverse quantum interference regimes in intramolecular singlet fission chromophores with thiophene-based linkers† An array of thiophene-based π-conjugated linkers in covalently linked pentacene dimers allow us to access diverse quantum interference (QI), modulating nonadiabatic coupling (NAC) in the singlet fission (SF) process. Simulations show that structural isomerism in terms of S atom orientation substantially alters NAC with relatively marginal impacts on energies.

A 12~14-Bit SAR-SS Hybrid ADC with SS Bit Shifting Resolution Reconfigurable Method for Bio-Signal Processing
1. Introduction One of the rapidly advancing fields in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution is wearable devices. Wearable devices need to be easy to attach to the body and portable, so miniaturization and low-power operation are essential. The bioelectrical signals processed by wearable devices are characterized by small amplitude and low frequency, and the amplitude and frequency range of each signal (ECG, EMG, EEG, and EOG) are different [1].

Deep Learning and Simulation for the Estimation of Red Blood Cell Flux With Optical Coherence Tomography | Uncategorized | Brown University We present a deep learning and simulation-based method to measure cortical capillary red blood cell (RBC) flux using Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT). This method is more accurate than the traditional peak-counting method and avoids any user parametrization, such as a threshold choice.
Talking about climate change with ChatGPT
Today I briefly talked about climate change with ChatGPT. It was interesting discussion. (My perspectives described below does not truly represent my opinion. Those perspectives were intentionally taken to challenge ChatGPT and see how it responds to typical rebuttals.) Climate change is a very severe issue that is affecting the entire planet.
Comparative Estimation of Electrical Characteristics of a Photovoltaic Module Using Regression and Artificial Neural Network Models
Abstract : Accurate modeling of photovoltaic (PV) modules under outdoor conditions is essential to facilitate the optimal design and assessment of PV systems. As an alternative model to the translation equations based on regression methods, various data-driven models have been adopted to estimate the current–voltage (I–V) characteristics of a photovoltaic module under varying operation conditions.
Imaging localized fast optical signals of neural activation with optical coherence tomography in awake mice
Abstract We report optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging of localized fast optical signals (FOSs) arising from whisker stimulation in awake mice. The activated voxels were identified by fitting the OCT intensity signal time course with a response function over a time scale of a few hundred milliseconds after the whisker stimulation. The significantly activated voxels were shown to be localized to the expected brain region for whisker stimulation.
