New sculpture at Effingham Performance Center celebrates unity and America Original

EFFINGHAM, Ill. (WCIA) – In Effingham, people are celebrating America’s birthday with a new piece of art on display at the Effingham Performance Center. The statue is called ‘Celebrate.’ The artist, Drew Hanfland, created the statue, reminiscent of the Statue of Liberty. He said he made his creation with fiberglass and wanted the statue to show unity and equality, while representing America and the performing arts. The statue is a woman dancing with her hands in the air.

Moweaqua honors retired teacher with official day on his 100th birthday Original

MOWEAQUA, Ill. (WCIA) – People in the Village of Moweaqua weren’t only celebrating the Fourth of July, but the birthday of a retired teacher this weekend. While America turned 250 years old, Bob Lawton is now 100 years old. Lawton was honored by the village by making the 4th of July ‘Bob Lawton Day’. Dozens of his family and friends were celebrating at the village’s community center. When asked how he got to be 100, Lawton says he doesn’t think about it; he just keeps on living.
