I am the host of “Just a Bit Outside” — Spartanburg’s only local baseball talk radio show, as well as a co-host for “Victory Formation”, the station’s weekly high school football wrap up/recap show.

Rain postponed the second game as the Pastimes of the season — forcing a double header on Saturday. Ismael Agreda (0-2, 5.22 ERA) got the start in game one opposite Cedric de Grandpre (3-2, 5.13). Agreda struggled right off the rip, giving up consecutive singles to Isaiah Drake and John Gil and a walk to Eric Hartman, which loaded the bases. After striking out Dixon Williams, Cody Miller singled to center, scoring two.

Burgers Get 5th Win in Series on Sunday

After clinching the series on Saturday night, Hub City looked to finish the series with a 5 win week. They would turn to DJ McCarty (0-2, 6.00 ERA) to try and make it happen. The Burgers once again dealt the first blow in the top of the 1st, capitalizing on a leadoff hit by pitch to Maxton Martin. Rafe Perich followed it by sending the 2nd pitch he saw over the fence in dead center to make it 2-0 heading to the bottom of the frame after the next three all went in order.

The Spartanburgers (19-17) took what can only be described as a massive punch to the gut early last night from which they never could recover. Asheville (9-28 entering Saturday) hung crooked numbers in four of the first 5 innings, jumping out to a 23-1 lead with 24 hits on the night. The Burgers responded with 5-spots in both the eighth and ninth innings, but of course the deficit was just too large to overcome.
