Here’s something you can hang your hat on: Longview police officers are embracing Texas culture. Lawmen have worn cowboy hats since the state’s infancy. But Texas Rangers, state troopers and sheriff’s deputies aren’t the only men and women of law enforcement wearing cowboy hats now. A change in the uniform policy at the Longview Police Department allows officers to wear cowboy hats on duty. The policy took effect in June.

No one was injured during the early-morning shooting June 15, but bullets came within about 15 feet of the family’s young son. SWEPCO files permits for construction related to Hallsville plant - Longview News-Journal

Southwestern Electric Power Co. has filed state permits for construction of two structures related to its planned Hallsville Natural Gas Plant. The 450-megawatt, natural gas-fired power generation plant is being built at the site of the former coal-fired Pirkey Power Plant, which was demolished in 2024. The natural gas plant will be a “next generation energy facility,” according to officials with SWEPCO, the region’s electrical utility company.
