What was your first job as a journalist?
My first paying job was as a freshman in college working for the Daily Iowan, Iowa's student and community newspaper.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
I have, though not in quite some time. I prefer to handwrite letters.
How is social media changing news?
It's making everything easier to consume and changing the way newspapers have to think — not something everyone wants to do.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
It's the only thing I've wanted to do since I was 14.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
Photoshop, Word, Excel, BloxCMS, Chorus, iMovie, Slack, RPM, Twitter, TweetDeck, YouTube, Instagram and I'm sure there's more.

Literally anyone from The Ringer.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
Sure did. Was a sports editor and ended up being a co-EIC
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
When I was a sophomore in college, I wrote a piece about a NFL player who quit to be an artist. That one.
What's your favorite drink?
Water. But if we're talking about actual drinks, it's a whisky coke. Though there are plenty of beers I'm more than willing to drink...
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
The Ringer, but it's close with the New Yorker and Deadspin. I've also been known to peruse longform.org
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
That we actually care about the outcome of the game. i'm just rooting for it to get over. And be interesting, of course. I hate blowouts.
