Riverside Prep’s Obie Obregon is the Joe Orthodontics High School Athlete of the Week Original

There were 6,399 votes cast in the race for the Joe Orthodontics High School Athlete of the Week poll. Riverside Prep softball player Obie Obregon ended with 65.06% of total votes cast by Daily Press readers. The junior received 4,163 votes, beating out five other high school athletes from across the High Desert. To earn a spot on the ballot, Obregon helped provide the decisive play in Riverside Prep’s CIF-Southern Section Division 3 championship victory over Great Oak on May 30.

June 5, 2026, 7:39 a.m. PT As the final out settled into Makayla Bustos’ glove Thursday afternoon, America Barajas had somewhere to be. The Riverside Prep senior still needed a shower. She still needed to get dressed. And she still had a graduation ceremony to attend. Fortunately for Barajas, the team’s lone starting senior, she would be arriving to the commencement ceremony as a winner.
