Yes
How is social media changing news?
It is the new Sunday paper. Instead of trudging to their front door every morning, readers reach for their phone in bed and scroll Facebook.
What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?
Why did you become a journalist?
Because there aren't enough prevalent Latino journalists. The fastest-growing demographic in the country needs someone to look up to.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
I covered the California GOP Convention last summer. Anti-Donald Trump protesters I spoke to foreshadowed what his administration has become.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
1. Be patient. 2. Give interviewees space after their answers. They often give you a little more. 3. Know how to file FOIA requests.
When's the best time to pitch you?
Anytime throughout the day. I'm most active after 6 p.m. PST.
What's the worst pitch you ever got?
A 500-word piece on Daylight Savings Time and its significance.
What's your favorite drink?
Keurig's Donut Shop medium roast k-cup with a squirt of vanilla creamer.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
Hiking, reading, or walking about Los Angeles looking for story ideas.
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
Reuters, mainly because there is little doubt they are bipartisan. Their journalists stick to facts and seldom pick favorites.
