Blueprint to Tax-Efficient Retirement: A Financial Architect's Guide
Minimizing tax liabilities preserves wealth. According to published studies by Dr. William Reichenstein, CFA, as cited in his book “Income Strategies,” creating tax-efficient withdrawal strategies to generate retirement income can add up to seven years of longevity for a retired household’s portfolio. Recognizing this, we emphasize the importance of holistic wealth management – focusing not only on investment management, but income and tax planning/managing, as well.
The Biggest Mistake Retirees Make
By Joseph DiSalvo and Marie Madarasz In our last article, “Use the Bucket Plan to Secure Your Dream Retirement,” we mentioned one of the biggest mistakes we see retirees make. In this article, we would like to dive deeper into what that mistake is, why it can be so damaging to a retiree’s future wealth, and how retirees can manage and minimize this risk. Imagine you're planning a road trip and need to fill up your gas tank along the way.
Use the Bucket Plan to Secure Your Dream Retirement
By Joseph DiSalvo and Marie L. Madarasz If retiring is part of your 2024 plan, generating an income to replace your paychecks should be top of mind. If you are like most pre-retirees, you may have questions such as, “When can I stop working?”, “How much income will I have in retirement?” and “How long will my money last?” With retirement comes the making of many decisions, often under pressure, time constraints, and confusion. Many decisions, once made, are irreversible.
Three Numbers to Know for Retirement Planning
By Joseph DiSalvo, ChFC, and Marie L. Madarasz, AIF One of the more confounding issues that pre-retirees must wrap their head around is how to create a growing stream of income from their savings after their paycheck stops. To solve for this, consideration should be given to various pieces of a retiree's financial life. How much income will they need to maintain their lifestyle? How much did they save for retirement? How did they save, in pre-tax retirement plans and/or in taxable accounts?
Safe Investments in Retirement
By Joseph DiSalvo and Marie L. Madarasz "The sky is falling!" "Recession is guaranteed!" "The markets are having a fire sale but it's too dangerous to buy!" The headlines are good at generating fear and unease.
Mayor’s Race Gets an Education Forum
On Wednesday, the county Board of Education agreed to participate in a mayoral candidate forum on education. Educate Our State invited the Board be a partner, and the data show a thoughtful discussion is needed. Nineteen of the thirty-one districts in the county are located in San Jose, and nearly 50 percent of San Jose’s public school students test below grade level in math and English.
Suspensions Fail Students, Trayvon Martin
Trayvon Martin’s death on Feb. 26 in Sanford, Florida, is a tragedy of epic proportions. I strongly believe Trayvon would still be alive today and attending school in his Miami-Dade County high school if alternative suspension strategies had been the norm in his school district. Every school in every district should take this opportunity to reexamine disciplinary policies that are historically ineffective.
Honoring an Educator Who Cared
Several Saturdays ago, I sat with wonder at the talent on stage at the Bellarmine College Preparatory campus. I was attending “A Celebration of Life” for my 1969 classmate, Tom Alessandri. Tragically, Tom’s life was cut short by a heart that stopped way too early. Tom and I walked the same corridors, sat in the same assemblies and classrooms from 1965 until graduation day, May 30, 1969.
Education Secretary Betsy DeVos Is Failing Our Neediest Students
At the recent joint session of Congress, President Trump framed education as “the civil rights issue of our time.” Unfortunately, this is another empty recitation. Let me explain. President Obama knew the importance of solving one of the most vexing and potentially calamitous issues of today: educating our children for a rapidly changing career and demographic landscape. He chose Arne Duncan as his choice for secretary of education.
Education Questions for the Next President of the United States
Like the rest of the country, I watched most of the presidential primary debates and town halls for both parties with bated breath. But to my knowledge, no candidate in either party was asked important questions about education. For me, there is no more important issue than the quality of publicly funded education from birth to age 18.
