CNN — Why focus on colorectal cancer? It is the third most diagnosed cancer, and the third leading cause of cancer-related death in the US in 2014, according to American Cancer Society statistics. The disease is particularly dangerous because it is usually asymptomatic in its early stages, making it more difficult to detect when it's less deadly. Only 59% of those recommended for screenings receive procedures that are in line with the American Cancer Society's standards. The study, which followed nearly 78,000 people and was published in the Journal of American Medical Association, adds to the growing body of evidence touting the health benefits of a plant-based diet.

CNN — Khalifa is PornHub's highest-ranked adult star. But she is also Lebanese-born -- and her chosen line of work has not only disappointed her parents but generated huge controversy in her native country. The debate has gained such a head of steam that some Arab news outlets published a family statement this week condemning Khalifa's actions and expressing the family's regret about her fame as a porn star. She is also criticized for her tattoo, in Arabic, of the opening lines of the Lebanese National Anthem.

CNN — "With a bang," George Strother told reporters when asked how his morning started. A BMW sport utility vehicle crashed through the roof of the family's garage in Escondido, California, in the early hours of Wednesday morning. "My wife thought it was an earthquake, she was really freaked out," Strother later said. The Strothers' house sits below street level, so an out-of-control car that careened off the roadway could land on top of the garage. "The first thing that we saw," Strother said to reporters, "the BMW that had come through the roof had landed on the hood of our (Nissan) Pathfinder."

The Nigerian government is struggling to control the bloodshed between the mainly Muslim north and Christian south that has claimed more than 3,000 lives since Boko Haram came to prominence in 2009, according to Human Rights Watch. Who are Boko Haram? Boko Haram means "Western education is a sin."

One of the captive men reads a statement demanding that Nigeria and Cameroon free jailed members of Boko Haram, which is battling to establish Islamic rule in northern Nigeria, and their families. "Meet all the demands we have mentioned, and if you leave out one of them, we will kill these hostages," the masked man says.

CNN — Regional leaders meeting in Uganda on Saturday called on a rebel group in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo to withdraw from a city seized by its fighters this week and to "stop all war activities." The M23 group must also "stop talk of overthrowing an elected government," said a statement issued by the regional leaders at the end of the Great Lakes region summit in the Ugandan capital, Kampala. It states the rebels should withdraw at least 20 kilometers (12 miles) north of Goma and that the U.N. mission for DR Congo, MONUSCO, should monitor the buffer zone.
