Replicator is hailed as the tool that will advance the Department of Defense’s (DoD’s) use of large-scale, attritable autonomy, but increasing production of small unmanned aircraft systems (sUASs) is only one of the challenges to UAS employment. A rarely recognized truth about flight school is that you are learning how to learn to fly; the unarmed orange and white aircraft are not your ultimate objective. Solid study habits will get you through the next training event, but to thrive requires a mindset and attitude I learned later in training than I would have liked. For student aviators, the three-legged-stool metaphor generally is recognized to mean: Be a good pilot, be good at your ground job, and be a good person.
