Warriors leading the charge for area field hockey community

The scene at Warrior Stadium on May 17th was proof positive that scholastic field hockey in Adams County is not only alive and well – it is thriving. The stadium was the site of the inaugural Battle of Gettysburg Field Hockey Tournament, an idea of Gettysburg varsity head coach Lydia Westre-Stith which came to fruition in the form of a day full of competition. The event, which used a 7 vs. 7 format, featured 10 high school teams and five middle school teams.

Former Warriors reunite to celebrate 50th anniversary of field hockey, baseball titles

Gettysburg High School enjoyed a banner year in athletics in 1975 - quite literally. The varsity football and field hockey teams captured Blue Mountain League championships in the fall, and the following the spring the baseball team added a league title. Wow, has he finally gone off his rocker? The thought crossed my mind as I digested a stunning bit of news on the eve of the PIAA Wrestling Championships. Having covered the state tournament for more than 25 years I’ve come to expect the unexpected, but in no way did I have this one on my bingo card: Chris Haines was stepping down at Gettysburg High School to take over the newly formed women’s wrestling program at Gettysburg College.
