Green Roof On Paul Hall
Beginning in August of 2024, Dr. Aaron Collins, Associate Professor Chemistry, brought Environmental Science students together to work on an upcoming project to put a Green Roof on Paul Hall. Green Roofs are a beneficial feature for modern infrastructure as it can reduce stormwater run-off from roofs and can reduce the heat island effect. Plants covering a portion of a building will reduce the radiant heat off of the surface and provide microhabitats for birds, butterflies, and insects.

Salt Use On Campus This Winter
Salt and sand are effective ways to mitigate injury on walkways and roads while traveling on campus grounds. It works by melting the ice and providing a better grip for shoes and tires. However, too much salt can impact native vegetation growth and aquatic ecosystems drastically.
Historic Solar Eclipse Comes To Be Seen In New Hampshire
On Monday, April 8, New Hampshire will see its first total solar eclipse event in 65 years. The last total solar eclipse seen in New Hampshire was in 1959. Although New Hampshire hasn’t been in the path of totality since, eclipse events happen about once every 18 months globally. These events are not always visible because they pass over different hemispheres or other parts of the world, and some are not classified as total solar eclipses in certain regions.
Undergraduate Research Day
College is meant to be a time to share experiences and learn breakthrough information to share it with your peers. A great way to do this is to present at Undergraduate Research Day here at SNHU. Undergraduate research is a great way to learn more about a topic you might be interested in with guidance from SNHU professors. Not only can our STEM majors present their scientific findings, but any field of study can be explored further and presented.
The Effect of Late Winter on Birds
Students and faculty at SNHU have experienced an out-of-the-ordinary start to the winter season. Not only have operations been dealing with power outages and extensive ice on walkways, but the community has been noticing strange patterns of temperature and weather that some scientists say are affecting bird populations. November alone was considered as one of the warmest months in post-industrial revolution history, says Jeff Masters, writer for Yale Climate Connections.

Spotlight: The Arboretum
SNHU’s nationally accredited arboretum goes unnoticed by a large portion of the campus population. The arboretum is located across from the Gustafson Center on the south side of campus. The 25 acres of campus have been protected, studied, and loved by science professors and students and the sustainability team. It is also the only accredited arboretum in New Hampshire.
Trash Bins On Campus
SNHU has undergone a change in waste management throughout the campus. The Office of Sustainability has been working on a centralized waste management system for a number of years and the SNHU community has started to notice. The new system is a product of a study the Office of Sustainability conducted to see how much waste the school produces and what it consists of. “We spent over $250,000 annually just on waste removal.

Clueless Philly Narcotics Cops Seize World's Most Expensive Pot Plant
Photo: Sam Newhouse/Twitter “It let the kids know that the police are here and they’re not your enemy” wasn’t the only dumb and ass-backwards statement the Philadelphia police made yesterday at a presser announcing they sent dozens of cops to a predominantly black part of town to “make the community safer.” The copper in charge of the PPD’s narcotics squad, Melvin Singleton, also said, “it’s so large, once broken down into the street value, that’s roughly somewhere in the area of $50,000...
ANTIFA & the Kids Clash With Pro-Trump Rally in Philadelphia
This past Saturday pro-Trump rallies to “Make America Great Again,” or whatever, took place across the country. But in Philadelphia, one pro-Trump march was shut down with the help of 300 kids on bikes. I’ve covered hundreds of protests over the past five years. I’ve been teargassed, maced and arrested while reporting. I’ve seen some wild things and a huge diversity of tactics, but I’ve never seen anything like what happened this past weekend.
Iggy Azalea Can’t Twerk For Shit
Remember Iggy Azalea? She was the white girl from Australia who almost had a thriving pop/hip hop career, but then she went and made a bunch of racist and homophobic statements on Twitter and started to get boo’d off stage at performances. Well, she’s trying to come back. And in her effort to revive her career, she decided to make twerking a new focal point. The problem is, she can’t twerk for shit.

Here’s our official Billy Penn Guide To Rolling a Blunt This article was originally published on Leafly Break down your cannabis into shake. Philly Police To Force All Officers To Walk Through Poor Black Neighborhoods Without Guns Or Badges…
Last week, as you may have heard, a Starbucks in Philadelphia called the Philadelphia Police Department to have two black men arrested for the crime of being black. The Starbucks manager has left the company, the two men arrested have begun speaking out, and, quite surprisingly, Starbucks has announced that they will be closing all of their 8,000 U.S. stores for one day in May to teach their employees about implicit racial bias. The move is being applauded.
Black Police Source: One Of The Cops In Starbucks Arrest Video Is Actually Racist
The cop in question can be heard in the video sarcastically saying they were arresting the men because “they were black.” The drama surrounding the Philadelphia Starbucks that called the Philadelphia Police Department (PPD) to have two black men arrested for doing absolutely nothing seems to be dying off. The streets surrounding the Starbucks where the incident happened are clear of news trucks and the store itself is back open for business, free and clear of protesters.
Source: Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney Doesn’t Wash His Hands After He Goes Pee and Poo
Last week the conservative-leaning Philadelphia Inquirer ran a story about the freshly elected and refreshingly progressive District Attorney Larry Krasner. The (surprisingly) half-assed story came from veteran reporter Holly Otterbein, and concerned some of Krasner’s taxes that are connected to a real estate business that Larry Krasner owned way before taking his oath as DA.
Shocker: Real Estate Developer Screws Over South Philly Community He Does Business With
Lawsuit: How Daniel Neducsin and his Queen’s Village Sweat Fitness location has been keeping their inevitable eviction from everyone who should be in the know. The real estate industry?—?perhaps more so than most other sectors?—?has a certain dark and slimy aspect to it. That quality tends to attract the type of devious entrepreneurs who, more often than not, live their lives as greedy, profit-thirsty landlords, developers, and real estate tycoons.
These Future Doctors Are Learning How to Influence Urban Design
Dr. Bon Ku, like many Americans, grew up without health insurance. The son of Korean immigrants who bounced from Chicago to Houston before landing in Elizabeth, New Jersey, he spent his adolescence working in his family’s restaurant, bussing tables and washing dishes alongside undocumented workers. Like him, they were living on a knife’s edge, hoping to not get injured or sick. It was this experience that led Dr. Ku, decades later, to the emergency room.
Billy Penn’s Best 12 Stories From 2017 – Joshua Scott Albert – Medium
Billy Penn’s Best 12 Stories From 2017Billy Penn is a website in Philadelphia that, according to their tagline, is “On top of Philly news.” Here are the best 12 stories they covered from 2017 that exemplifies that motto.
17 Things That Made 2017 a Year to Forget
After the mess that was 2016, most of really hoped that even with a Trump presidency ahead of us that 2017 would be better a year. That was not the case. In the end, 2017 was filled with just as much, if not far more, bad news. Between mass shootings, fidget spinners, the MTA, natural disasters, XXXTentacion, and a government hellbent on destroying America’s relationship with the rest of the world and the inhabitants of it, 2017 will go down as a year that’s worth wishing never happened.
The Worst Cops of 2017
Policing in America has taken a turn over the past five years as more Americans have become aware of just how bad police and our criminal justice system is and always has been. The NAACP has even issued a travel warning for the entire state of Missouri because of recent legislation that protects cops. And, more recently, officials in Dallas have announced that they, like many police departments, are having a hard time finding people to hire.
Philadelphia Hopes to Harmonize Historic Preservation
Even without the bright orange demolition notice pasted onto its double doors, Christian Street Baptist Church wouldn’t be the most striking building in South Philadelphia. There’s more high drama in the arched doors and windows of St. Paul’s Catholic Church, one block east.
Donald Trump's 31 Worst Tweets of 2017 (So Far)
Like Donald Trump’s presidency, his Twitter account is cesspool of ignorance and buffoonery that plagues us every day. The actions that he has taken since moving into the White House have proven many of our worst beliefs about him to be true: He is a racist, sexist, classist and childish bigot without regard for anyone other than himself.
The 36 Most Inspirational Gucci Mane Tweets of 2017
Gucci Mane has lived quite the life, but 2017 may have been his best year yet. He got married to his long-time sweetheart, Keyshia Ka’oir, and the entire spectacle aired on BET (we still have some questions about that though). This year, Gucci Mane published The Autobiography of Gucci Mane, which covers many of the conflicts he’s struggled with throughout his lifetime and how he got to where he is today. He also released the album Drop Top Wop, which was incredible.
Uptown and Downtown Rats in Manhattan Can Be Distinguished by DNA
Rats, cockroaches, assholes and the distinct, ubiquitous smell of piss are just few threads of the fabric that make New York City the jungle we’ve come to love. But rats, specifically, have been our distant and vile little neighbors running the city’s streets and alleys for centuries since they were brought over from Great Britain and France.
America's Next Senator Thinks "The Gays And Socialist" Are Out to Get Him
Unfortunately we shouldn’t put too much hope in the people of Alabama. Republican Roy Moore, an alleged serial pedophile and sexual predator, will likely be the next senator to represent the state.
Victoria's Secret Models Under Fire For Rapping N-Word In "Bodak Yellow"
What a train wreck the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show was this year. Not only did the cameras capture model Ming Xi crying backstage after falling on the runway—a drama play by producers that many viewers found insensitive—but now many of the models are facing criticism due to actions of their own. A backstage video has surfaced that shows the (non-black) models rapping along to Cardi B’s Grammy-nominated hit “Bodak Yellow.” Yes, they use the N-word, too.
America's Next Senator Thinks "The Gays And Socialists" Are Out to Get Him
Unfortunately we shouldn’t put too much hope in the people of Alabama. Republican Roy Moore, an alleged serial pedophile and sexual predator, will likely be the next senator to represent the state.
America’s Moral Compass in 2000: “Nothing in the World Like First-Rate P*ssy”
In the past year, Donald Trump has defended Roger Ailes and Bill O’Reilly, both of whom were forced out of Fox News because of sexual assault and harassment allegations. He’s told voters in Alabama to vote for Roy Moore, an absurd and bigoted man running for Senator despite being accused by several women of sexually assaulting them when they were minors.
Matt Lauer is a Total Disgusting Creep
News arrived this morning that NBC’s Today show co-host Matt Lauer, one of TV’s most popular personalities, was fired by the network for sexual harassment and “inappropriate behavior.” But now the dirty and disturbing details are starting to emerge. Stories about the the 20-plus year TV veteran’s misconduct had been in the works for a few weeks and NBC, smartly, tried to get ahead of the negative PR tornado headed its way by firing him before they were published.
New Yorkers Finally Have a Reason to Go to Times Square
Tom Steyer, the same billionaire responsible for pissing off Fox News and the network’s viewers with TV ads calling for Donald Trump to be impeached, has given New Yorkers a reason to go to that dreadful place that most locals despise: Times Square. The Manhattan tourist trap now features a giant ad calling for 45’s impeachment.
Trump Regime Wants to Burn All Art Made at Guantánamo Bay
If you’d be interested in seeing paintings, sculptures and other art made by former and current prisoners of Guantánamo Bay in Cuba—the infamous maximum security military detention center known for human rights violations and holding prisoners indefinitely without charges—you may want to hurry up and get to John Jay, because the United States government, at any moment, may seize and burn it up. The art show, Ode to the Sea: Art from Guantánamo Bay, opened on Oct.
In Trump's World, Only He's Allowed to Use and Abuse Illegal Immigrants
Earlier today Donald Trump tweeted that he would sit down with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi to discuss how our circus of a political system can prevent a looming government shutdown.
Totally Normal-Looking White Guy Escaped From Prison
The fella in the photo above, who may or may not stand out if you happen to see him in a crowd or at your local dog park, recently escaped from a California prison. Cops would appreciate your help finding him. Very few details about the skull-faced-escapee are available, but Corey Hughes, 27, was being held at a California prison facility called “Honor Farm.” The prison usually houses inmates who will only be in custody for a short period of time or those awaiting transfer.
Rick Ross Taking Wingstop and Checkers On His New World Tour
The last time we heard from Rick Ross he had just landed in Philly to protest for the freedom of his Maybach Music Group (MMG) colleague Meek Mill. Now, he’s flown off to Europe for his first world tour featuring fast food. Ross, who owns several very profitable Checkers and Wingstop locations throughout the south, kicked off his “Checkers Vs. Wingstop” tour in Milan, Italy last week. Tonight’s tour stop is in Monaco, France with Marseilles, Vienna, and Geneva still to come.
California May Legalize Magic Mushrooms For Recreational Use by 2019
In a little over 30 days, weed in California will finally be legal for recreational use. And who knows? By January 2019, hallucinogenic mushrooms could also be legal for recreational use. All it would take, hypothetically, is 365,880 signatures from California voters by April to get the California Psilocybin Legalization Initiative on the ballot for the 2018 election. A sustained effort to legalize magic mushrooms has been spearheaded by a small-town mayoral candidate.
Al Sharpton May Not Save Meek, But He's Going To Try Anyways
Meek Mill is currently locked up at the Chester State Correctional Institution for not signing a record deal with a label owned by a relative of the judge who sentenced him violating his probation. Last week, his Dream Chasers team went on with their annual Thanksgiving turkey give-away, distributing 1000 turkeys to needy families in Philly despite the head Dream Chaser’s incarceration.
Trump Insults Native Americans At Event Honoring Native Americans
Donald Trump is a rude, racist bigot—and if we’re being honest, he’s as dumb as a dry pickle. Today, in yet another mind-boggling and tasteless gaffe, Trump managed to insult the entire Native American population at a White House event honoring Native American code talkers.
Make America Rape Again: Breitbart Editor Says 'Rape Used to Mean Something'
Back in the day, if you got raped, it actually meant something. This, according to Alex Marlow, editor-in-chief of Breitbart, the conservative news outlet lead by Donald Trump’s former chief strategist Steve Bannon. “Rape used to have a narrow definition,” Marlow said on Breitbart News Daily, a show that airs on Sirius XM’s conservative talk radio channel Patriot.
Donald Trump Moves to Deport 59,000 Haitians
It seems like every day Donald Trump’s racism shines through more and more. One day he refuses to denounce white supremacists, the next day his administration is making moves to deport 59,000 Haitians who were displaced following the devastation of a massive earthquake in 2010. According the New York Times, displaced Haitians have been able to remain in America with Temporary Protected Status but under the new Homeland Security directive, they have to leave the United States by July 2019.
Charles Manson, Notorious Cult Leader, Is Dead
The songwriter and notorious cult leader had been serving nine life sentences for orchestrating a wave of gruesome murders in California in 1969. According to prison officials, Manson died of natural causes. He was 83. Manson and members of his cult — the Manson Family — sent shockwaves throughout the country when they killed five people in the home of Sharon Tate, including the pregnant actress herself. The following evening, two more people were killed.
Trump: Marshawn Lynch Should Be Suspended for National Anthem Protest in Mexico
Trump is the best at speaking on things that do not concern him. He’s back to speaking on NFL affair, insisting that Oakland Raiders running back Marshawn Lynch should be penalized if he protests the national anthem again. Lynch, who played in Mexico on Sunday, stood for the Mexican national anthem but sat for the American national anthem. So Trump called for his suspension (it’s not going to happen).
Philly Business Corridor Seeks Right Mix of Growth, Preservation
Along Lancaster Avenue in West Philadelphia, James Wright is a minor celebrity. Certainly the business owners know him: He was corridor manager for the nonprofit People’s Emergency Center for nine years before becoming director of community, economic and real estate development for PEC’s community development corporation arm. But the police officers and the passersby know him, too.
