what could be more perfect than a collective understanding that revolution is forever incomplete, always in-motion, forward driven with setbacks abound, contradictions aplenty, overridden with innate antagonisms of modernity, where humans are made and unmade, new beings are forged toward something hopefully everlasting. a triumph but never unscientific or rigid narrative! s/o to matt to reminding me earlier today that ive had this on my watchlist for a few years now!

i watched this on opening weekend, made oomf sit with me as the credits rolled and about an hour or so after even that was finished while i wrote something pretty exhaustively in my notes app. where i sort of situate this film within (maybe as an expression or consequence of?) the broader contemporary political left milieu.

watched this for the first time in like 4th or 5th grade at my dad’s house (my mom would have never allowed me to watch it lmao), and i don’t know why i was allowed to be exposed to this back then. but it is quite remarkable how much of the plot i remembered, there are so many memorable characters. i remember being fascinated and laughing quite a bit while watching as a kid, and still find a few of the bits funny today.
