Season Preview: Inside the ECAC
October 8, 2026 by Joshua Seguin/Staff Writer (@JoshSeguin1) When it comes to the ECAC these days, the question will always turn to which team, or teams, were able to hold on to a majority of its talent. This season that looks like a two horse race. Last season Dartmouth one-upped Quinnipiac and won its first-ever ECAC title, but the Bobcats have become the kings of the league's Cleary cup. They have won the last six and seven of the last eight.
The Hero in the Shadows
April 13, 2026 Denver Assistant Dallas Ferguson Kept the Defense Together, Focused For Another Championship by Joshua Seguin/Staff Writer (@JoshSeguin1) LAS VEGAS At the end of a game that saw Denver bend but not break, it was apparent that the Pioneers were well versed in what they were doing and how they were going to accomplish it. Denver hasn't always won Frozen Four games the pretty way during its remarkable run, at least on paper, often getting heavily outshot.
Fate Was Cruel to Michigan Again
April 10, 2026 Wolverines Had it All, Except a Bounce in the End by Joshua Seguin/Staff Writer (@JoshSeguin1) See all of CHN's Tournament coverage: articles, brackets, history and more. LAS VEGAS This year was going to be different, and for most of it, it was. Michigan has been loaded with talent over the last five years, and made four Frozen Fours. It's been similar in that regard to its opponent Thursday, Denver.
Frozen Four Wednesday: Michigan
April 8, 2026 by Joshua Seguin/Staff Writer (@JoshSeguin1) See all of CHN's Tournament coverage: articles, brackets, history and more. LAS VEGAS Amid all the glitz and glamour that Las Vegas brings to the Frozen Four, college hockey has brought its own version. The four teams that comprise the Frozen Four are the top four teams, in terms of National Championships, in college hockey history. But it has been 28 years since the Wolverines have won a title.
Inside the Frozen Four: Michigan
April 6, 2026 by Joshua Seguin/Staff Writer (@JoshSeguin1) See all of CHN's Tournament coverage: articles, brackets, history and more. After its first tournament miss in six seasons, Michigan has come back with a vengeance and looked the part as the best team in college hockey this season. The Wolverines are in their fourth Frozen Four in the last five seasons and have consistently been one of the most talented teams in college hockey for the past decade.
Michigan Turns Puck Luck Into Buzzsaw
March 27, 2026 by Joshua Seguin/Staff Writer (@JoshSeguin1) See all of CHN's Tournament coverage: articles, brackets, history and more. ALBANY, N.Y. Already up by a goal heading into the waning moments of the first period, Michigan seemed to be just plodding along in its First Round NCAA Tournament matchup against Bentley. Sometimes, however, fate and just throwing a puck on net does just the trick. It also might just be someone that you least expect.
Wisconsin Put Its Layoff to Good Use
March 27, 2026 Badgers Roll Past Dartmouth, Ending Big Green's Historic Season by Joshua Seguin/Staff Writer (@JoshSeguin1) See all of CHN's Tournament coverage: articles, brackets, history and more. WORCESTER, Mass. When Wisconsin last took to the ice, in a Big Ten quarterfinal against Ohio State, it was demoralized and humiliated in a 7-1 loss to Ohio State on home ice. What it all meant, was that the Badgers had 15 days of rest entering its NCAA Tournament First Round game on Thursday night.
Augustine to the Rescue for Michigan State
March 26, 2026 41-Save Performance Staves Off UConn by Joshua Seguin/Staff Writer (@JoshSeguin1) See all of CHN's Tournament coverage: articles, brackets, history and more. WORCESTER, Mass. Taking the first three penalties of a game, in the first period, is hardly recipe for success at any time, but especially in an NCAA Tournament game, where you needed to get back in the groove after two weeks off.
Milestone Moment
March 21, 2026 Dartmouth Captures Program's First ECAC Championship in Dramatic Style by Joshua Seguin/Staff Writer (@JoshSeguin1) LAKE PLACID, N.Y. After winning 11 games in a row to start the season, Dartmouth quickly became a favorite in the ECAC. But this is Dartmouth, a program that never won anything in the ECAC and hadn't been to the NCAA Tournament in 46 years. It was going to have to prove it over a longer haul than just 11 games.
Princeton Was Relentless in Reaching ECAC Title Game
March 21, 2026 by Joshua Seguin/Staff Writer (@JoshSeguin1) LAKE PLACID, N.Y. Over the years, Princeton has had the penchant for being one those teams that could pop a surprise run in the ECAC Tournament. Add 2026 to that list of years. Princeton topped two-time defending champion Cornell in the ECAC semifinal to make its fifth league final in history. It took resilience and an impressive buy-in to make it all work.
Dartmouth Withstood Fast Clarkson Start to Reach First Final in 46 Years
March 20, 2026 by Joshua Seguin/Staff Writer (@JoshSeguin1) LAKE PLACID, N.Y. The only thing that stood between Dartmouth and its first ECAC final in over 40 years was a Clarkson team that came out hot doing what it does best, forechecking the heck out of the Big Green. The Golden Knights dominated the first 12 minutes of the game, outshooting Dartmouth, 13-2. Dartmouth, however, used the TV timeout in the middle of the period and made adjustments.
Clarkson Pulls Off Improbable Comeback to Sweep Top-Seeded Quinnipiac
March 15, 2026 Dartmouth, Princeton Advance to Lake Placid, While Cornell Earns a Game 3 by Joshua Seguin/Staff Writer (@JoshSeguin1) Despite sometimes erratic stretches, Clarkson showed the ability to defeat top teams at times throughout the season — Penn State, North Dakota and Cornell. But this weekend, it turned in its finest hour against Quinnipiac. Friday's win, a dominant effort, was quite something in and of itself.
Brown's Whittet Leaving With Head Held High
February 10, 2026 PRINT And Lamenting the Current Affairs of College Sports by Joshua Seguin/Staff Writer (@JoshSeguin1) Brendan Whittet has arguably held one of the most difficult jobs in college hockey for 17 years, as head coach at Brown. For Whittet, however, it is a job he has poured everything he had into year after year and a job he has loved for so long.

January 8, 2026 PRINT Princeton's Daniels Has Continued to Shine Following Huge Early-Season Game, Helping Team Into First Place by Joshua Seguin/Staff Writer (@JoshSeguin1) When the season began, there were few expectations for Kai Daniels and Princeton. But as the season has worn on, both have become forces in the ECAC and national picture. The success of both have been one of the highlights of the ECAC season.
Howe Making Yale's Transition Easier, and a Tougher Decision
December 29, 2025 PRINT by Joshua Seguin/Staff Writer (@JoshSeguin1) Joe Howe (photo: Colleen Murphy, Yale Athletics) When Keith Allain made the surprise decision to retire in early August, it was much too late for Yale to go out and hire externally for a head coaching position. Considering it is rare in college hockey for a coach to leave so late in the offseason, Yale looked internally, making an interim hire.

Dartmouth's Double Play
December 10, 2025 PRINT Goaltending Tandem Leading the Way in Hanover by Joshua Seguin/Staff Writer (@JoshSeguin1) HANOVER, N.H. If you had asked the Dartmouth coaching staff at the beginning of the season, it probably would have wanted one goalie taking all the time in the net by now. But considering the Big Green are still undefeated after 10 games, this decision will probably have to wait a while longer.
Team of the Week: Dartmouth
December 2, 2025 PRINT by Joshua Seguin/Staff Writer (@JoshSeguin1) It was abundantly clear over the past few seasons that Reid Cashman had built something good at Dartmouth, with consecutive top-five finishes in the ECAC and an Ivy League title to boot. This season, however, is showing that it might be turning into something special. The Big Green are off to their best start since 1942-43, with an 8-0-0 record, and have yet to trail this season.
2025-26 ECAC Watch List
October 7, 2025 PRINT by Joshua Seguin/Staff Writer (@JoshSeguin1) ECAC teams are embarking on a new norm, where many are unable to take advantage of things that programs in other conferences can take advantage of. But at the end of the day, the quality in the league will stay the same.

Whittet will still be tasked with replacing two of his top three scorers, Max Scott and Tyler Kopff. Kopff signed an ELC with the Sabres in March, while Scott transferred to Maine.
Inside the Frozen Four: Denver
April 7, 2025 PRINT by Joshua Seguin/Staff Writer (@JoshSeguin1) See all of CHN's Tournament coverage: articles, brackets, history and more. Denver has the chance this week to become the first repeat national champion since Minnesota Duluth in 2019, and will look to win its 11th title in program history; the most of any program in college hockey. Its appearance in the Frozen Four is the 20th all-time, including the sixth since 2016.

MANCHESTER, N.H. Adjusting is key to any game, but on Sunday night in the Manchester regional final, Denver did exactly that against a team that gave it a new wrinkle. Unlike what it expected, Boston College came out physical, a bit too physical at times.

MANCHESTER, N.H. Sunday’s Manchester Regional final between Boston College and Denver was the eighth time that a championship game rematch took place in the following NCAA Tournament. In Defeat, Clarkson Sees Where it Needs to Go
March 22, 2025 PRINT by Joshua Seguin/Staff Writer (@JoshSeguin1) LAKE PLACID, N.Y. Clarkson had the backing of the Lake Placid crowd Saturday night in the ECAC Tournament final, but Cornell came out and played a perfect road period. That crowd never really got going in the first period and it showed on the ice. Down 2-0, the prospects looked thin for the Golden Knights. But over the next two periods, it threw everything but the kitchen sink at Cornell. Unfortunately, it came up just short.
Clarkson Will Face Its Old Coach in Final
March 22, 2025 PRINT Dartmouth Fails to Get Past Semis Again, but Future Still Bright For Big Green by Joshua Seguin/Staff Writer (@JoshSeguin1) It is clear from the way that his team plays, that J.F. Houle has brought a sense of steely professionalism to Clarkson. His experience as a coach in the pro game obviously has a lot to do with that, but the way his players view and play for him, probably says it even more.
The Play That Saved the Big Red
March 21, 2025 PRINT by Joshua Seguin/Staff Writer (@JoshSeguin1) LAKE PLACID, N.Y. Sports is crazy sometimes. With the season on the line, trailing 2-1, Cornell was struggling to get anything going in the waning moments of its ECAC semifinal against Quinnipiac. With desperation seemingly turning to exasperation, the worst thing to happen was to take a penalty with less than two minutes to go. Usually this means the end game for a trailing team. But that's exactly what happened.
ECAC Final Four Preview
March 20, 2025 PRINT by Joshua Seguin/Staff Writer (@JoshSeguin1) In the preseason, the coaches and media both agreed that the top four teams in the ECAC were Quinnipiac, Clarkson, Cornell and Dartmouth. Interestingly, despite fits and starts for the latter two, those four teams are the last four standing in the league's final weekend. The cream ultimately has risen to the top when it comes to the tournament.
ECAC Quarterfinals Preview
March 13, 2025 PRINT by Joshua Seguin/Staff Writer (@JoshSeguin1) With no clear favorite and possibly just one NCAA bid to grab, the ECAC tournament has a new flair. Although Quinnipiac entered the tournament as the one seed, after its fifth straight regular-season crown, there is no doubt that the parity from top to bottom in the league could produce some weird results in the coming two weeks.
Team of the Week: Clarkson
February 25, 2025 PRINT by Joshua Seguin/Staff Writer (@JoshSeguin1) When J.F. Houle took over at Clarkson last summer, he knew that he had a good nucleus to work with, but he also understood it would take time for his team to buy in to his brand of hockey. The bumps and bruises taken earlier in the season have gone a long way to molding his Golden Knights into the team they are today.
Colgate Right in the Thick of It
February 6, 2025 PRINT by Joshua Seguin/Staff Writer (@JoshSeguin1) Early in the season, the prospects for Colgate were pretty low. With just one win in its first six games, it seemed just like the team that many pundits thought would struggle. But now with four weeks left in the season, the Raiders are right in the thick of the ECAC regular season title race, sitting just one point behind usual leaders, Quinnipiac. With a smooth skating approach they have started to pick up steam.

A Different Ivy
November 20, 2024 PRINT Fusco Forsakes Huge Family Legacy to Make Big Impact at Dartmouth by Joshua Seguin/ (@JoshSeguin1) John Fusco began his career at Harvard, but quickly realized he needed a change after the first season. Transfers within the Ivy League are rare, but a movement from Cambridge to Dartmouth is even moreso. When you add in the fact that his father won a Hobey Baker Award playing for Harvard (as did his uncle, for that matter), it's safe to say the move is unprecedented.

Although the Bears didn't lose much from a team that struggled for consistency last season, it did lose its second leading scorer in Ryan Bottrill.
2024-25 ECAC Watch List
October 7, 2024 PRINT by Joshua Seguin/Staff Writer (@JoshSeguin24) The ECAC has a clear favorite this season in Cornell, but after that there are a lot of talented teams that could make a stand. It is an interesting time in the league, with some teams feeling good about competing in the new college hockey landscape, while others struggle to maintain what they have. The landscape is becoming murkier, but at the end of the day the ECAC still provides some of the best hockey in the country.
Houle Back Where He Belongs at Clarkson
October 7, 2024 PRINT by Joshua Seguin/Staff Writer (@JoshSeguin24) When Casey Jones departed to become the head coach in waiting at Cornell, it was a bit shocking for Clarkson. Jones had been the Golden Knights' head coach for 12 seasons and had a lot of success in rebuilding a Clarkson program that had fallen on a downward trend. So when the Clarkson job became available, it was attractive. In an even more surprising turn, Clarkson was able to convince alum J.F. Houle to return to his alma mater.

March 22, 2024 PRINT 7th-Seeded Saints One Win From ECAC Title After Thorough Win Over Quinnipiac by Joshua Seguin/Staff Writer (@JoshSeguin24) LAKE PLACID, N.Y. Just three weeks ago, St. Lawrence was trucking along, struggling, seemingly readying itself for an expected quick end to its season. The Saints had just one road win entering the ECAC Tournament, they had just been defeated 8-1 against Quinnipiac and there probably wasn't much confidence in a possible tournament run.

November 30, 2023 PRINT Cornell Senior Seger Bringing Everything to the Table by Joshua Seguin/Staff Writer (@JoshSeguin24) Although the transfer portal is all the talk in college sports these days, Cornell, like the other Ivy League schools, largely cannot participate in the fun. November 16, 2023 PRINT Tigers Still Crawling Out From the COVID Setbacks by Joshua Seguin/Staff Writer (@JoshSeguin24) Princeton, like the other Ivy League schools, had to bide its time in the post-COVID world to become competitive again, and return to its natural place in the ECAC pecking order. The schools are still at a disadvantage and the future remains largely uncertain, but the improvements Princeton has made are noticeable and commendable.
Dartmouth Begins Crucial Year in Rebuilding Phase
October 11, 2023 PRINT by Joshua Seguin/Staff Writer (@JoshSeguin24) To say it has been a long road since 2020, is an understatement for Reid Cashman and Dartmouth. But with the new year, the Big Green and Cashman are hoping the tide has turned. Cashman took over Dartmouth in 2020 from Bob Gaudet and was swiftly handed an unfair card — the 2020-21 season was cancelled for many teams, including Dartmouth, due to COVID.

ECAC Watch List, 2023-24
October 8, 2023 PRINT by Joshua Seguin/Staff Writer (@JoshSeguin24) Last season, Quinnipiac finally reached the top of the national mountain, defeating Minnesota in Tampa for its first NCAA championship after coming close a few times. The ECAC has three national champions now since 2013. Only the NCHC has more titles in that span as a league, which is a great achievement given the changes in the national landscape that have made it harder for some of the smaller schools to compete.
