How fractional work is helping mothers thrive in corporate America
One of Nina Sodhi’s most priceless memories is taking her son on a trip around the world during his summer vacation. The two traveled east until they hit the international date line. When their 55-day voyage ended, it was time for her son to go back to school and for Sodhi to go back to work. Sodhi is a fractional CFO. She is part of a wave of mothers who find fractional work a better fit than full-time jobs while raising a young child.
Burned out middle manager? Try fractional work
Middle managers are at a crossroads right now. With the “Great Flattening” reducing management layers, many managers face an uncomfortable choice: stay put and risk layoffs, burnout, and declining mental health, or try a different career strategy entirely. Fractional work presents a new solution to this growing career dilemma. In a fresh spin on part-time work, fractional workers perform a “fraction” of a full-time job, often for multiple companies at once.

What I learned building a fractional executive career
As a graduate of Harvard Law School and Harvard Business School I believed full-time roles were the only way to succeed, until an unexpected Bollywood acting opportunity opened my eyes to freelance-forward careers. Since then, I have toggled between holding full-time executive roles and fractional ones. If you’re not familiar with the phrase, you can think of fractional work as the executive version of freelancing.
What I learned building a fractional executive career
India could soon get a lot thinner - at least in theory. On Friday the patent on semaglutide - the molecule behind Danish drugmaker Novo Nordisk's blockbuster weight-loss drugs Wegovy and Ozempic - expires in the country. This will allow domestic pharmaceutical companies to release cheaper copies or …
Shalene Gupta’s Exploration of PMDD
3 min read **Trigger Warning: Suicide, Self-harm** I met Shalene Gupta in the fall of 2021 when I dropped into her writing class on a whim. By spring our friendship blossomed. We spent most weekdays writing our books side-by-side at various Boston cafes. Shalene could easily moonlight as a motivational coach, since she inspired me to dream bigger about my own writing career every time we talked.
When you become a freelancer, your identity changes. Here’s how
When you are a freelancer, you have no automatic job title. It’s up to you to create one. And the question implied in our social systems is a haunting one: Without a job title, do you even exist? The existential angst this question creates could be one reason people fear freelancing. After all, becoming a freelancer means killing the part of yourself that sees 9-to-5 jobs as your path forward to both safety and social status. You will say goodbye to society’s understanding of where you fit.

Book Review: ‘Incense and Sensibility’ by Sonali Dev
3 min read First, a confession: There is nothing I love more than a good Bollywood love story. Elaborate costumes, opulent estates, and of course, two charming individuals overcoming the odds to follow their hearts and be together. It’s a fine recipe for film and it gets me every time. I never thought it could be recreated in a novel until I read “Incense and Sensibility” by Sonali Dev.
