But much of his work was done outside of the state, including nearby Illinois which is home to a quarter of his remaining buildings. These spaces are the subject of a new book by local author Kristine Hansen. looks at both public and private buildings designed by Wright that exemplify different periods of his work.

Summer is in full swing here at Alice’s Garden, where this year’s group of herbal apprentices are gathering before class. As students arrive, they join instructor and director Venice Williams, collecting herbs and looking through the many plots that make up the urban farm. By 1948, when Milwaukee elected its third Socialist mayor, the city was a very different place than it had been just a few decades earlier. Socialist power at a low point when Zeidler ran for mayor Frank Zeidler had joined the Socialist Party as a young man at the height of the Great Depression, drawn in by its ideals. But the party had changed a lot over the last decade.
