Interview

What was your first job as a journalist?

My first paid piece was an article on Irish playwright Ronan Noone for Boston Magazine.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

When I was a kid, sure. But the way I write now involves so much re-working, that I'd probably throw it through a wall today.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

It means to find the truth — it could be small and personal, or large and universal — and communicate it to the rest of the world.

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

Via email. If it's tech/business: tech@jppullen.com. Travel/destination: travel@jppullen.com.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

Macbook Air, Evernote, Skype, Hootsuite, Things, Pomodorable.

What's your favorite social network?

Facebook. Despite how they constantly muck it up, it's got the best interface and controls.

Why did you become a journalist?

To unearth truths, both large and small, and share them with the world.
