Wisconsin Democrats continue to outpace GOP in fundraising

The state Dem Party outraised its GOP counterpart 4-to-1 last month through federal accounts. WisDems also spent more than it took in during May. The state Dem Party reported $772,285 in receipts last month, $929,461 in expenses and more than $1.3 million in the bank. The party reported $364,436 in donations from individuals, including $91,422 in unitemized donations from those giving less than $200. It also reported $374,487 in transfers from the party’s state account.

Congressional challengers make pitch to convention

Lorenzo Santos took a shot at his rivals for the Dem nomination in the 1st CD, saying one doesn’t show up in the southeastern Wisconsin district, one doesn’t live in the seat, and the other can’t win. Santos, a former Racine County official, didn’t mention his rivals by name in knocking them, though Milwaukee Ald. Peter Burgelis lives outside the seat. “I know we want to be Wisconsin nice, but right now is the time to kick some ass,” Santos said.

Legal wrangling in one challenge to congressional map could bar appeal in second suit

Those who challenged the state’s congressional map as an unconstitutional partisan gerrymander have filed notice they plan to appeal the ruling to the Wisconsin Supreme Court. Meanwhile, the parties in a challenge of the congressional map as an anti-competitive gerrymander are wrangling over the proper way to appeal a three-judge panel’s rejection of that lawsuit. It’s the first time parties have used a 2011 GOP-authored law to challenge congressional districts.
