As two historic institutions collide on the football field with unprecedented stakes, it’s important to take a look back at some of the alumni of The Game. Ryan Fitzpatrick Before leading a 17-year NFL career across nine different teams, Fitzpatrick quarterbacked the Crimson from 2001 to 2004. Most notably, he led a Harvard squad that thrashed the Bulldogs 35-3 to cap off a perfect 10-0 season.

Garber ’76 learned to steer from the stern seat of a boat on the Charles River. In the fall of 1973, Garber walked into Harvard Yard as a freshman from Rock Island, Illinois, looking for a place to fit in among the crowds of new students.

All 10,753 fans in Providence, RI, fixed their eyes on the big yellow goalposts at the end of the field. They thought the game was all but over as Harvard’s kicker prepared to kick the ball through the uprights and extend the Crimson’s lead. They were wrong. Instead, a sea of Brown fans rose to their feet and Crimson hearts sank as the crowd watched in disbelief.
