The Words We Use to Talk About Our Struggles Matter
I’m always quick to tell people that I’m not angry at God about my infertility. And it’s not a lie. I truly don’t feel anger. “I recognize that God did not do this TO me, it’s just a part of life,” I tell folks. I know that in my head. But then I find myself saying things like, “What are you trying to teach me through this, God?” Trying. Through this. The implication is subtle, but it’s there.
How Not to Treat Your Pastor
Ever since I was little, people have seemed fascinated with my life as a pastor’s kid. I quickly grew numb to the “What’s it like to grow up with pastors for parents” and “What are your parents really like at home” questions. To me and my siblings, our lives were normal. Our parents may have been stricter than most, but it was mostly normal. So in honor of Pastor Appreciation Month, here’s a look at how churches can do a better job caring for pastors and their families.
Here’s the No. 1 Term People Searched on BibleGateway.com
Online Scripture resource Bible Gateway has reportedly been viewed over 14 billion times in its 25 years. On its 25th anniversary, the site shared its top searches. Bible Gateway, a Bible search engine, was created in 1993 and is home to over 200 versions of the Bible in over 70 languages. The group shared that “love” is the top keyword searched on the site.
Report: 38% of Evangelical Churchgoers Believe in the ‘Prosperity Gospel’
A new study has found just how many American Protestants believe in the theology known as the prosperity gospel. LifeWay asked more than 1,000 Protestant churchgoers from across the country several questions related to the controversial teaching, including if their “church teaches that if I give more money to my church and charities, God will bless me in return.” 38% said that their churches did.
Study: People Say Practicing Their Faith in Other Ways Is a Main Reason They Don't Attend Church
It’s been widely said and repeated that Americans are attending church less than they have historically. However, the reasons for that have been mostly conjecture. According to a new survey out of Pew Research Center, the reasons people aren’t attending church are more practical than being about a lack of faith. The reasons people continue to attend are largely about building their relationship with God.
As a Leader, You Should Seek God First
The following is an excerpt from Rooting for Rivals, Peter Greer and Chris Horst’s newest book, released July 2018. Looming high above busy Broadway Avenue in downtown Denver stands a historic mansion that until recently was rapidly losing the grandeur of its youth. Years of neglect had resulted in the once-pristine brick Victorian’s slow conversion into a neighborhood eyesore and a hotbed of drugs, violence and other illicit activities.

Willow Creek: ‘We Now Believe Bill [Hybels] Entered Into Areas of Sin’
The leadership of Willow Creek has released another statement related to allegations of sexual misconduct by the church’s founder and former pastor Bill Hybels. He resigned earlier this year. Hybels was accused of a pattern of inappropriate behavior over the course of years. He and the church initially adamantly denied them.

Christianity's Most Famous Beer Enthusiasts
Christians and beer have a complicated relationship. In recent decades, many conservative evangelical camps have deemed alcohol consumption to be a cultural no-no, relegating it somewhere between church taboo and sinful behavior. However, craft beer in Christianity is making a comeback as a new generation (many of whom were raised by teetotalers) is now setting their own rules for church.
