Guest Post by Jimmy MacGregor Apparently, I Had a BookTok Voice About a year and a half ago, some friends in a streaming server told me I had a “BookTok voice.” I had absolutely no idea what they were talking about. Which is slightly ridiculous, because I was already an avid Dark Romance and Romantasy reader. I knew the books. I knew the morally grey men. I apparently just hadn’t discovered the corner of TikTok dedicated to them. So, naturally, I went looking.

Nothing got your blood pumping like the moment just before you struck your first chord onstage. The dimmed lights, the silent anticipation of the crowd, the pounding of your heart as your mind dances on the cusp of that high you can only get from roaring applause. I steadied my breathing as the announcer made his introduction. Up here I wasn’t just a fry cook. Up here, I wasn’t a forgotten member of my own family. Up here, people listened.

At what point did you decide to be an author and what was your path to publication? I grew up in the small town of Potosi, on the Mississippi in southwest Wisconsin. I was blessed with some great teachers in junior high and high school, who introduced me to literature, taught me how to write and also opened my eyes to the wider world beyond our little town.
