Drawings as measures of environmental connectedness
Abstract Drawings are external representations of internal mental models. In the current study, drawings of a place-specific environment collected from 344 college students were analyzed via factor analysis. Two emergent models correlated with natural and built environments were compared to a validated Likert-type measure of environmental connectedness, offering insight into the extent to which drawings could be used as a proxy for environmental connectedness.
COVID-19 pandemic impacts on student learning in undergraduate mineralogy
Abstract Online and hybrid instruction as a response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic presented specific challenges in geosciences due to the role of laboratory and field activities. We carried out a research study on student learning in undergraduate mineralogy at a large public research university in the United States over a 4-year period including pre-pandemic in-person instruction and during pandemic online and hybrid instruction.

Broadly defined, sexual harassment is unwelcome or inappropriate behavior of a sexual nature that creates an uncomfortable or hostile environment. It comes in various forms, both subtle and overt, but three specific types were considered in the Aycock et al. study. “Sexist gender harassment” describes hostile or insulting remarks and actions based on one’s gender, such as saying women cannot do physics.
