Phil Johnson retires from Grace to You as Matt MacArthur announces ‘something new’

Phil Johnson, executive director of Grace to You (GTY), the media ministry of the controversial late Pastor John MacArthur, has retired after 43 years. Johnson, 73, said on social media June 25 that board members suggested the timing of his retirement. But, he said, the board did not threaten or coerce him into retiring, apparently responding to online speculation.

Former youth minister facing murder charges dies in Las Vegas police custody

A 49-year-old former youth pastor died of self-inflicted wounds in Las Vegas Thursday. David Vander Meer was facing charges he murdered his wife 20 years ago and made it look like an accident. Officials previously believed Bernadette Vander Meer, 28, slipped and fell in 2006 while hiking to the top of one of Utah’s famous rock formations.
