What was your first job as a journalist?
Creating Celeb Secrets was my first gig at 15 and 11 years later I'm still here :)
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Yes! My mom collects vintage ones and they were always around the house. As a kid, I would play around with them and type my daily thoughts.
How is social media changing news?
It's all in one place! You can literally hear about anything based off article shares, tweets/posts from verified public figures, etc.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
No. My English teacher who ran it said my writing wasn't good enough, so I started my own and got MAJOR positive feedback from big agencies.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Take as many opportunities as you can while you're young. I built Celeb Secrets from scratch and took every opp I could. It was a huge help!
What's the worst pitch you ever got?
Oh goodness. Too many, but the worst is when it says "Hi [First Name]" or something totally not relevant to our brand.
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
I enjoy reading Entertainment Tonight, E! News, Page Six
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
That we only cover kid/teen press. Celeb Secrets is actually most popular with 18-24 and 25-34 demo!
