Unsupervised probing critical transitions in complex systems using generative diffusion models
Abstract Critical transitions can irreversibly change complex systems, making anticipation a fundamental challenge. Machine learning is increasingly used for early warning, but many approaches require transition labels or control information. Probabilistic time-series forecasting models naturally produce predictive uncertainty by generating future trajectories from observations. Here we show that this uncertainty changes with system dynamics near critical transitions.

Divergent outcomes of delayed ureteropelvic junction stenosis after renal cyst sclerotherapy: two case reports
Abstract Rare long-term complications, such as ureteropelvic junction (UPJ) stenosis, can occur after renal cyst puncture and sclerotherapy and lead to severe hydronephrosis with renal impairment. We illustrate these risks with two examples: in one case, a delayed diagnosis led to severe perirenal fibrosis and renal failure at operation; in the other case, early laparoscopic pyeloplasty preserved renal function.
Engineered bacteria as exogenous organelle mimics restore PTEN and p53 tumor suppressor functions for cancer therapy
Abstract PTEN and p53 are two pivotal tumor suppressors that synergistically restrain tumor progression but are frequently inactivated in cancer. Restoring their functions is a promising therapeutic strategy but remains limited by unsustainable protein production and off-target effects. Here, we report a biohybrid platform integrating engineered attenuated Salmonella typhimurium VNP20009 with nanotechnology to enable durable restoration of PTEN and p53 functions in tumors.
Engineering the FK228 biosynthetic gene clusters for high-yield production
Abstract FK228 (romidepsin) is a potent HDAC inhibitor; however, its clinical application is severely constrained by low natural yields and the genetic intractability of its native producer. Here, we leveraged the established Burkholderia chassis KOGC1 to develop a high-performance platform for FK228 production. Through systematic fermentation optimization, we addressed major production constraints including potential end-product toxicity and precursor supply.
Analysis of the boundary load impact on porcelain insulators and DIC test
Abstract Traditional detection methods for pillar porcelain insulators, both domestically and internationally, are predominantly direct contact-based, which have certain limitations and drawbacks. These methods pose significant operational risks and are incapable of performing online detection of pillar porcelain insulators in their energized state. This paper proposes a monitoring system for fracture failure of porcelain insulators by combining experimental analysis and finite element simulation.
IgG positive food elimination diet altered gut microbiota, decreased zonulin in migraine adults: a pilot dietary intervention trial
Abstract Background and aims: Gut microbiota and intestinal permeability may play a role in food specific IgG antibodies mediated delayed hypersensitivity in migraine patients. We aimed to evaluate the effect of food specific IgG-guided elimination strategy by assessing the changes in gut microbiota, zonulin as well as their correlation with symptoms, IL-6, TNF-α and CGRP.

Utility of dual assessment of cyTRBC1 and cyTRBC2 by flow cytometry for identifying clonality in sCD3-negative to dimly expressing T cells
To the Editor: We read with great interest the article by Horna et al. entitled “Dual T-cell receptor β constant chain (TRBC) 1 and TRBC2 staining for the identification of T-cell neoplasms by flow cytometry” [1], published in Blood Cancer Journal. The authors reported a newly developed and strategically engineered monoclonal antibody, JOVI.1, specifically targeting TRBC2.

Case Report: Retrosternal parathyroid lipoadenoma in an obese male patient—diagnostic pitfalls and postoperative biphasic parathyroid hormone dynamics
Abstract Introduction: Parathyroid lipoadenoma is a rare histologic variant of parathyroid adenoma. Its occurrence in the retrosternal mediastinum poses significant diagnostic and surgical challenges. The clinical significance lies not in its rarity, but in the diagnostic pitfalls it presents, particularly when located in the retrosternal mediastinum. We present a case that underscores the pitfalls in preoperative diagnosis and the intricacies of minimally invasive resection.

Formation planning for multiple USVs with PFCL-MADDPG deep reinforcement learning: theory and experiment
In this paper, we propose a novel algorithm called Potential Field and Curriculum Learning-based Multi-Agent Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient (PFCL-MADDPG), which is based on curriculum learning and collision risk assessment model. This algorithm excels in handling complex path planning and sparse reward scenarios. By incorporating curriculum learning, we mitigate the challenges posed by sparse rewards, thereby enhancing learning efficiency.
Self-adaptive data-driven PID controller for a multi-area interconnected power system under DoS attacks
Abstract This article studies the load frequency control (LFC) problem of multi-area interconnected power systems under the threat of denial-of-service (DoS) attacks. Due to the open communication network of control regions, interconnected power systems are particularly vulnerable to Dos attacks, which can undermine the stable operation of the power system.

An alternative framing for the ‘issue’ of Chinese international students in Western nations
In the past few decades, the flow of Chinese students to overseas universities has made Chinese international students (CISs) . Their presence in the global educational sphere has drawn significant attention from both mainstream media and academic researchers. Often, CISs are discussed in a simplistic and homogeneous way as an issue to be addressed. This article examines the typical representations of CISs stigmatised in Australia’s mainstream media and academic discourse.
‘Outdated and irrelevant’: what do young Australians think of their schooling?
Australia’s school system – and whether it is doing its job – is often under the microscope from , experts and parents. The most recent NAPLAN results in 2024 triggered a wave of heated discussions after about one in three students were not meeting literacy and numeracy benchmarks. Education Minister Jason Clare who also have serious concerns about rates of students who complete Year 12. In 2024, the of students between Year 7 and Year 12 was 79.9%. For government school students, it was 74%.

Hypoalbuminemia is Highly Prevalent in Patients with Periprosthetic Joint Infection and Strongly Associated with Treatment Failure
Introduction Periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) occurs in 0.5%–2% of total joint arthroplasties (TJAs) and is one of the most devastating complications.1 With an aging population and a rapid increase in TJAs, the number of PJIs is also predicted to grow exponentially.2 Two-stage exchange arthroplasty remains the standard management protocol for chronic PJI; however, its failure rates, as reported in the literature, remain alarming, ranging from 14% to 45% according to different assessment...
Transposon mediated BAC transgenesis via pronuclear injection of mouse zygotes
Pronuclear microinjection of bacterial artificial chromosomes (BACs) is the preferred way to generate transgenic mice because the transgene accurately recapitulates expression of the endogenous gene. However, the method is demanding and the integrity and copy number of the BAC transgene is difficult to control. Here, we describe a simpler pronuclear injection method that relies on transposition to introduce full-length BACs into the mouse genome.

Reliable wafer-scale integration of two-dimensional materials and metal electrodes with van der Waals contacts - Nature Communications
Abstract Since the first report on single-layer MoS2 based transistor, rapid progress has been achieved in two-dimensional (2D) material-based atomically thin electronics, providing an alternative approach to solve the bottleneck in silicon device miniaturization. In this scenario, reliable contact between the metal electrodes and the subnanometer-thick 2D materials becomes crucial in determining the device performance.
Reversible flexoelectric domain engineering at the nanoscale in van der Waals ferroelectrics - Nature Communications
Abstract The universal flexoelectric effect in solids provides a mechanical pathway for controlling electric polarization in ultrathin ferroelectrics, eliminating potential material breakdown from a giant electric field at the nanoscale. One challenge of this approach is arbitrary implementation, which is strongly hindered by one-way switching capability.
