Development and validation of an explainable XGBoost model for early mortality prediction in pediatric sepsis
Abstract Objective: To develop and internally validate an explainable machine learning model for early mortality prediction in pediatric sepsis using routinely available clinical variables, to support clinical risk stratification and decision-making. Methods: A total of 752 children with sepsis admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at the Children's Hospital of Soochow University between January 1, 2019, and June 30, 2023, were retrospectively enrolled.

Immune–metabolic mediation of depression risk: Causal evidence from antibody and metabolite GWAS
Abstract Depression is a major contributor to global disability, yet its underlying biological mechanisms remain incompletely understood. Immune activation and metabolic alterations, particularly involving lipid metabolism, have been implicated, but their roles in depression remain unclear. We used large-scale genome-wide association study (GWAS) summary statistics to examine the relationships among antibody responses, plasma metabolites, and depression.

Compressive properties of biologically inspired anisotropic TPU/CB composites for mechanical sensor
Conventional thermoplastic polyurethane/carbon black (TPU/CB) composites suffer from uncontrollable elasticity modulus and recoverability due to the randomness of the internal structure. Inspired by biological materials that enhance mechanical properties through regularly arranged microstructures, biomimetic materials with axially and radially aligned microstructures are prepared using bidirectional freezing technology.
Brain iron load and neuroaxonal vulnerability in adult attention‐deficit hyperactivity disorder
Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a common neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by inability to sustain attention, inappropriate levels of hyperactivity, and impulsivity.1 ADHD symptoms usually manifest in childhood and significantly affect academic development and social interactions with a prevalence of approximately 3.5% in adults.2 A diagnosis of adult ADHD has been suggested to be associated with an increased risk of Alzheimer's disease and dementia in old age in...

A nomogram to predict the risk of venous thromboembolism in patients with colon cancer in China
1 INTRODUCTION Colon cancer, characterized by a high incidence and mortality rate, stands as one of the most prevalent diseases worldwide. During the sole year of 2020, the world witnessed more than 1.9 million new instances of colorectal cancer (including the anus), resulting in an estimated 935,000 fatalities spread across 185 nations.
Optimizing Two-Dimensional Irregular Packing: A Hybrid Approach of Genetic Algorithm and Linear Programming
1. Introduction The problem of two-dimensional irregular packing entails the placement of irregular shapes within a limited area with the objective of optimizing material utilization. The utilization of sheets is prevalent in various industry sectors, including mechanical manufacturing, metal processing, aerospace engineering, automobile manufacturing, and furniture manufacturing [1].
Ginkgolide B promotes spontaneous recovery and enhances endogenous netrin‐1 after neonatal hypoxic-ischemic brain damage
Perinatal hypoxic–ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) is a condition that can lead to long-term cognitive, motor, and behavioral impairments in newborns. Although brain hypothermia therapy is currently the standard treatment for HIE, it does not provide complete neuroprotection. As a result, there is a need to explore additional therapies to enhance treatment outcomes.
Inflammation-related pathology in the olfactory epithelium: its impact on the olfactory system in psychotic disorders
New Results doi: https://doi.org/10.1101/2022.09.23.509224 Abstract Smell deficits and neurobiological changes in the olfactory bulb (OB) and olfactory epithelium (OE) have been observed in patients with psychosis. The OE is the most peripheral olfactory system located outside the cranium, and is connected with the brain via direct neuronal projections to the OB. Nevertheless, it is unknown whether and how a disturbance of the OE affects the OB in psychosis.
Towards high-resolution quantitative assessment of vascular dysfunction
1 Introduction Neurodegenerative diseases represent a huge socio-economic burden in aging societies. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) offers information about different brain features non-invasively and it is widely employed in the detection of structural damage. Functional alterations, however, may initiate years before anatomical alterations and are important in the picture of disease pathophysiology.

Study on Surface Integrity and Fatigue Properties of TC4 Titanium Alloy by Surface Ultrasonic Rolling
Abstract : In this paper, the influence of a surface ultrasonic rolling process on the surface integrity of TC4 titanium alloy and its influence on the fatigue properties were studied. By comparing and analyzing the surface roughness, microhardness, residual stress, microstructure, and fatigue fracture, the surface strengthening and modification mechanism of TC4 titanium alloy is discussed.

Pancreatic Cancer Cell Exosome-Mediated Macrophage Reprogramming and the Role of MicroRNAs 155 and 125b2 Transfection using Nanoparticle Delivery Systems : Scientific Reports
Before creating the indirect co-culture system for evaluating J774A.1 macrophages polarity in tumor microenvironment, we firstly establish a system for macrophage polarization studies to evaluate baseline macrophage polarity. J774A.1 macrophages were stimulated with different stimuli, LPS and IFN-γ or IL-4 cytokine, and the expression level of specific M1 and M2 markers were determined by RT-PCR.
