1 Introduction Scaphirhynchus, a wholly riverine genus of sturgeons native to rivers of the central and southern United States, comprises three species that are threatened to varying degrees. Pallid Sturgeon (Scaphirhynchus albus) inhabits the Missouri and lower Mississippi rivers and was listed as endangered under the U.S. Endangered Species Act in 1990 (USFWS 1990) and as critically endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in 2020 (Jordan and Nelson-Stastny 2022).
