Abstract Mitigation at the city level is vital for climate goals, yet most strategies overlook intercity interactions. This study examines carbon footprint changes in 16 Chinese urban agglomerations from 2012 to 2017 using city-level input-output models. Five agglomerations reduced emissions, six increased, and five plateaued.

Abstract Managing municipal solid waste (MSW) amid global environmental and public health concerns is increasingly challenging with population growth and urbanization. Developing tailored MSW management strategies that target environmental co-benefits within diverse national development and waste composition contexts is complex and urgently required.

1 Introduction Livestock production has rapidly expanded in recent decades in response to global population explosion and the change in diet from plant-based to animal-based foods (P. He et al., 2018; Thornton, 2010). However, livestock production is implicated in various environmental burdens (ammonia (NH3) and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, eutrophication of surface waters, biodiversity loss, etc.) (Du et al., 2024; Zheng et al., 2024; Zhu et al., 2022).
