1. Introduction Historically, the scope of sol–gel coating research has been quite narrow. To achieve optimal results with applied sol–gel layers, it is important to consider the thickness of the coating and the curing process. For thinner layers, a quick cure using an oven or UV light is sufficient [1]. However, thicker layers require a longer curing time in the oven, typically several hours, to ensure all possible reactions in the coating are completed [2].
