NEW YORK – The Fleming Initiative has partnered with Cepheid to evaluate the use of the company's real-time PCR-based Xpert Carba-R molecular assay for identifying patients infected with antibiotic-resistant, carbapenemase-producing Enterobacterales (CPE) bacteria. Over the next two-and-a-half years, the initiative, which formed in 2024 and is led by Imperial College London and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, will undertake the study, called Trace-CPE.

New Pan-European Network to Develop Novel Diagnostics for Infectious Diseases

NEW YORK – A new European diagnostics network has been initiated to support the development of new tools for infectious disease detection and diagnosis. Called the Pan European One Health Network for Infectious Diseases Detection, Monitoring, and Prevention, the effort will officially commence in October and will run for four years. The Infection Innovation Consortium (iiCON), which is led by Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) in the UK, will coordinate the network.

European Notified Bodies Raise Alarms Around IVDR Revision as Submissions Decline

NEW YORK –The European Commission's decision at the end of last year to revise parts of the In VitroDiagnostic Regulation (IVDR) was welcomed as a "key milestone" by manufacturers at the time. Lately, though, notified bodies (NB) have raised new concerns about how the IVD space may be adversely affected by the proposed revision.
